I have a 99' Blazer that has been great. Today in Chicago it peaked out over 70 Degrees and when I tried the A/C nothing but outside air temp. I popped the hood and the compressor would start and spin for a few seconds and then stop. It kept doing this over and over not staying on long enough for cold air. Is this common or do I need to get to the dealer for a look.

Your refirgerant and your A/C oil is low.

Do not use the AC anymore until you get it recharged or you will be replacing your compressor.

They all have to be topped up from time to time.

If you want to stop the AC compressor from turning on, remove the electrical connector from the top of it for now.

That way you will be able to use the defrost seting without hurting the AC system.

I had a similar problem with my 2000 s-10. Started acting weird just like yours then it stopped all together. Turned out the low pressure switch went bad. It will cut off when your coolant is getting low. Check the coolant level and if that is ok check out that switch.

If the comperssor is cycling on and off, the refrigerant is low.

Thats probly why my switch burnt out. It was expensive too. Had to get it from the dealer $60 because none of the auto stores had it in stock for the stupid flex fuel!
