i have a 1993 Rodeo 4WD and i was wondering if anyone has a system in theirs. im constiplating (sp) about puttin 4 12's in with a 4000 watt amp for the speakers and then maybe the 200 watt amp i have now for the mids and highs or gettin a 1000 watt amp for them. i just wana know if neone has had ne problems with their system no matter how many watts your pushin. right now i have 800watts and 1 12 and i know that the voltmeter dives rite around 12.5 - 13 volts. if i put in the 4 12's im goin to get a big ass farat and i know that will help its just for the time being i dont feel like puttin in my cap i have now b/c im about to take out my system and put it back in my car. thanks.

if you are buinlding your own sub box, consider adding 6x9's into it. It comes with 4x6, but you can't get very good sound out of a 4x6 at higher wattages. unless you plan on spending ALOT on some high end speakers, you might just want to use 6x9s

well thats good lifelongslacker but mine only has 4 1/2" in front and i think there 5 1/2" in rear (i know there not ovals they might be 6") but i was just wonderin if the watts are gona hurt the truck at all. this isnt my first system. but it is my first system in an SUV. In my car i bought a 135 amp alternator to help out with the amps that im pullin. but i was lookin and i cant find a high output alternator. i mean if i put the system and use a few caps and possibly batteries is it going to hurt my alternator. i know the rattle will be real hard on the body because with 1 12 it rattles a hella lot.

The only thing you have to watch is voltage spikes. It sounds like you have that now. Some extremely large amps and even just cheap ones can suck a lot of power. You'll need to update the main power cables to and from the battery, get a gel cell battery, and then maybe a bigger altinator.

Depends on what you want in your sound system. If you want pure bump, then 4 12s. IF you want SQ, 1 12 is plenty. I only run 1 JL 12w3v2 powered by a 700watt alpine. sounds great.
If you run a 4000 watt amp, I highly suggest a dual optima yellowtop battery setup.

A lot of people here may not have answered your question because they do not know.
I remember seeing some posts in the past that there is not much of an alternative to the stock alternator power output. Go to a reputable car audio shop and see if they have any ideas.
In my opinion you should be fine with the stock set-up and a good battery. I would use a cap though.
I had a 99 Eclipse with a 10" sub and all speakers running on amps, and it was fine for the two years I had it. I had everything stock with no cap, never a problem.

I didnt see this comment earlier, but I have to say, you definatly are in the wrong forum if you are trying to find pure audiohelp. This forum is setup as a general Isuzu Rodeo Forum, and for that purpose it is great. If you have a problem with your truck and need to figure it out, there's a 9 out of 10 chance it'll get answered here. Once you get into specific things, such as sound systems and specifics, the guys here might not be as helpful as guys from sounddomain or the12volt.com

My suggestion would be to contact http://4alterstart.com/ in order to get a high output alternator. The rodeo/passport only comes with a 65-70amp alternator which is nothing. I just purchased a 165amp alternator from alterstart and plan on installing it very soon in my 97 honda passport.
I highly recommend upgrading the alternator if you plan on putting an aftermarket system in the rodeo especially with the amount of wattage you are indicating that you want to get out of the system.
What brands of speakers, etc... are you putting in?

i wasnt really tryin to be a dick about the last thing i said...."thanx i coulda told myself that" i was just bsin. i didnt really expect ppl to know about it really when i posted this. i just wanted to give it a try. you guys did help me out tho. i mean i know about the cap and the batteries. i was goin to get a 150 farat capbat. 1/2 battery 1/2 cap. and i was going to put in 2 optima yellow cap batteries in the rear alone. and good lookin out 97passport with the alternator. that was my main flaw. i know in my crx i had to buy a 135 amp alternator b/c i fried mine with the system in there.
FYI for ppl. if you do get a big system in your car/truck/suv theres an equation to figure out the amps your going to pull which in return will help you figure out if you need a new alternator. its
watts/volts=amps. i found that out from this guy that works on mad electronics.
good lookin out ppl. you helped me out and i hope that my 2cents might help someone.

First figure out where your batteries and your cap are going because if you plan on running a 4000 watt amp without these, its a waste of time and money. You'll get maybe a 1/4 of the amps power. And I think I already read you got a high output alternator, you'll need that too.

I haven't put the alternator in yet, but this next week looks very promising.

Personally, I didn't get into much detail because of your question. People always think that they need 4 12's or 15's and gobs of power for it to work when really they do not. People tend to think that if you stuff multiple subs and amps it will be awesome. Also, many times people just look at the wattages that are plastered all over the packaging when they really need to look at true RMS wattage at a given voltage like 12v or 14.4v..
You have to look into what products you plan to use. Seriously, 2 12's that are decent and in a properly designed and built enclosure is all you'll need. Anymore than that, it usually sounds like ass. Systems these days don't have to include a bunch of subs. Case in point, went cruising last weekend and the kids couldn't believe how great my system sounded compaired to their big chain store crap in prefab boxes.
