So today I had another motorcycle riding lesson. No, driving a 5spd car isn't enough for me. I wanted to learn how to ride my dad's brand new BMW motorcycle.
Getting back on track... I had already had one lesson that went very well. I only stalled out once, and I thought I was getting the hang of things rather quickly. Even though I threw out my hip/back getting on the bike the first time, after 2 chiropractor appointments I was feeling significantly better. Today was nice and warm so I asked if I could have another lesson. My dad drove me down to a parking lot for me to practice. Now, the first round of practice didn't go as well as the other day, but well nonetheless. My brother got a practice round, and then I got back on the bike. Went around a few laps. Then this one time in particular I was practicing getting started, I start to let out the clutch, didn't even get as far as blipping the throttle and suddenly I'm going down. The bike and I fall to the left, I feel something hit my ankle (no, it didn't break), the bike hits the ground, and then I'm rolling over to get out of the way. I look up to see my brother and dad hauling ass my way. I stand up screaming something about, I'm fine, the bike is OK and then I throw the riding gloves down on the pavement and help pick up the brand new motorcycle that I just dumped on the ground. I tear off my helmet, bitch about the broken nail I got, and I think I'm going to just quit.
I have some nice bruises on my legs. My back muscles are very sore. My hip hurts all over again. I have taken far more severe falls from dirtbikes as a kid (such as flipping myself over the handlebars) but this one really shook me up. I didn't do too much damage to the bike... just a scraped up handlebar guard and a few other tiny cosmetic scratches to join the ones from when my dad forgot to put down the kickstand the other day. I dunno. I think I'll leave the 2 wheels up to the boys. I might just stick to using all 4 on my car....

Starting on a motorcycle that is too big for you to handle might be part of your problem. It sounds like the BMW was in control. It is much more fun the other way around.
Find a friend with a smaller machine and get some time on it. The lighter weight and less horsepower will be much less intimidating.
Once you are comfortable with it, move up to something larger.
A riding school might even be a good investment.
I would hate to see you hurt yourself, but it can be a great source of enjoyment once you become a rider.

Well thought out advice...
Deal is that I've ridden before as a kid. It's only an F650 GS Dakar, so it's not like I'm a beginner on a Busa. :rolleyes: (I hate Huyabusas)
The bike is very well balanced, especially over 5mph. The seat is a bit on the high side for a bike, but me being very long-legged, and with the gas tank under the seat instead of infront of the seat, it settles down once you begin to move, so handling is very sturdy.
I may just try to ride it again, but I'm so incredibly sore. :( Maybe after my chiropractor kills me for riding again too soon I'll give it the old college try. :)

Sport bikes can be a bit of a handfull when your first starting but if you've got a strong background in dirtbikes then it shouldn't be much of a problem. Just curious, what BMW is it?
And their's nothing wrong with the busas :( :( They are my bikes big brother;)
