Cold Air Intake

Is there a way on the 91s where the stock air box is to take that off and put just a K&N reusable element there and put a clamp on it connecting it to the air intake hose connected to the firewall? I was searching around looking for how to make a redneck one cant find one on the forum so i figure i ask.

that one in the picture, wouldnt that just be sucking in hot air from the engine bay ?

i dont think the guy on the ford site i got it from said he got about a 5-8hp gain
