I am trying to find the correct amount of Torque to apply to the Front Hub Bearing on a 99 Grand Am SE, 3.4 auto.

Thanks

My book says 284ft/lbs, seems kinda high, but that's what says. Hopefully someone else can back that up just to be safe.

Thanks Marc. my book, if I'm correct states 30 ft. lbs. then 284 Degrees. I have never torqued using "Degrees" So I thought I would ask the Experts and see what everyone else is torquing it at. Thanks again.

I knew it, I just re-read that section and the way it is written made it look like just 284, but yeah you are correct it is 30ft/lbs + 284deg. 284 degrees is just a bit over 3/4 of a turn. Once you the 30 ft/lbs mark you then continue another 3/4 turn with the wrench.

Thanks Marc. That is how I understood it also, But, I just picked up a set of 3 Preliminary manuals for a 99 GA, These are the manuals that the Dealer Techs used and they state 284/lbs. Confused! That Seems Awful Tight to me. I have an aftermarket hub bearing and don't want to Crush it! LOL.
will check some more and see if I get a reply from a G.M. Tech. Thanks Marc.
