k two stories

1) driving back home wit my gf in my dads ute, its pouring rain and the engines still cold. light goes yellow up ahead im goin 70kph i ease the breaks on and feel them start to snatch, which they sometimes do till the cars fully warmed up, so i have the choice of going through a red light 1 second after it turned red or locking the wheels and sliding through a few seconds after it goes red.
i chose the first (and safer) option got hit with the camera 6 points and $250
next night driving to my gals place. Im used to cruising at well above the speed limit due to riding a mbike so i wasnt thinking and was siting abov the limit. got flashed again $100+ and 2 points

thats 3 ponts from losing my licence.

now to the racing

coming home from work last night sitting at the lights (its 3 lanes) and a supra pulls up next to me revs a bit, engine sounded N/A, so i thought id humour him and rev back, light goes green and we take off.
i pull on him all through first, but by the beginning of second he has started to come back slowly, by 120kph he has the lead on me by almost a full car length. we still push it though up to about 160kph.
Heres the amusing thing: up ahead the lights are red so we slow down and eventually pull up either side of the car sitting in the middle lane, which also happened to be a POLICE car!! damn that was too close cause if the lights wearnt red we would have passed him at 160kph in a 70 zone!

not so cool as my licence would have been taken 4 sure!

damn cops

wow, that was indeed a close one.

So those 3 points now mean that you can lose yr license for how long?
What kind of a system is that?

Pistolpete

we got whats called demerit points, u start with 12 points and they get taken away depending on the severity of the offense. ie. running the red was worth 3 points but casue it was the easter long WE it was doubled so 6 points! or small speeding fine like $100 would b worth 1 point.

points return 3 years after they where taken so i have 3 years last sunday till i get them back.

once u run out of points u lose ur licence for 3 months i think, but then u get them all back after.

so im going to have to be very carefull for a bit i think, but then saying that before the WE. i had lost only 1 point since i got my licence.

ouch that sucks man, im glad Michigan is to much of a hick state to invest in cameras. But i also heard they have liscense plate covers that a clear, but when you take a pic of it, it comes out red, like red eye in picture of people.

I think you could fight the cammera ticket if you explain the situation to the judge...other wise, that was a nice close call at the end, woulda been nasty.

Yea, I've heard about those clear plate covers too, hopefully you can fight that first ticket, and good luck with that

Yeah the cops ARE doing their job, but sometimes they think they can do whatever they like just because they have a badge to flash at people with.

THen the judge just says you were going to fast for the circumstances. Still get the ticket and pay the court fees.

There aren't that many police officers that do the crap you see in movies. The fact still remains that he broke the law on every account and he deserves what he got. Sometimes I break the traffic laws but I don't bitch about it if I get a ticket.

Makes sense...but its hard to blame youself..you need somebody to blame

and here in Ontario the demerit system is so painful, especially for anyone in the Male 16-21 age category. One ticket, one crash, and your insurance skyrockets...

nice racing a the supra...did you ever figure out if it was NA?

LOL!

Yeah, yourself!

I have no problem blaming myself; I don't see why it is so hard for other people not to look for a scapegoat. The police didn't force you to break the law.

I could understand being angry if you got a ticket for your exhaust or a ticket for going a few miles over the limit. However, blatant shit like that, give me a break.

I guess some people find it hard to blame themselves and point the finger at the cop and try to justify their behavior, but justification is like masturbation, you're only screwing yourself.

i got no one to blame but me in the end
im not bothered about the speeding ticket that will only be like $50-$100, and reken pure retardedness is to blame for that one. its just the light camera thats frustrating cause i could do nothing in that situation but slide through the red 3 seconds after it changed to drive through 1 second after the change, i just did the safer of the two.

as for the clear plates and stuff, we got clear bits of plastic that when u look at them from straight on they are clear but when u turn them sideways they go blurry. idea is that u can see the plates from the front but when the cameras get u the plates only comes up as a blur.

we also had an x-cop here in WA that came up with a spray to put on the plate, the flash from the cameras bounced off the spray and left just a bright light on the film, no plate.
the spary was banned.

anyway we have all pretty much established that speed cameras are simply for revinue raisning anyway, so my tickets have gone to maybe pay for something worth while like a holiday somewhere tropical for the priminister.

You know it would have been easier to get off that icket running the red light if a real cop caught you. Had a buddy who ran the a red light during wintdr and got pulled over...told the cop that he was going speed limit but cuoldnt stop becuase of the snow...cop let him off free

CAn't believe cameras are legal at all, they're not used here that I've noticed. I'd think somone would destroy the camera or somthing. We have things that tell you your speeding but those are just fun to mess with, see how high you can get the number on the machine to go lol.
