parking braks

i have a 99 silverado, does the parking brake run on the same pads as the brake pads or are they different pads,thanks : :icon16:

If you have rear disc brakes there will be a "drum" and "shoe" on the inside of the rotors. Take off your calipers and you should be able to remove the rotor and see the setup. The setup sucks, that's partly why GM has gone back to rear disc brakes. Mine haven't worked properly since about 8 months after I bought my truck.

My sister has a 99 Suburban, and it has had ALL KINDS of problems relating to this rear brake setup.

well as long as you dont drive with the parking brake on, you wont have any problems with it.....i am going on 130k miles and all ive done is one pad slap.....front and rear.....park brake shoes are still holding like brand new

same here a 01 with 70,000 miles and a 04 with 25,000 miles both still hold like new

never drove mine around with the park brake on and it's been gone for a long long time.

Same here, never used my park brake at all until one day I needed it and... no brake. GM had a TSB and an upgraded clip to hold the shoes in place but obviously not everyone got it.

i dont have the revised clip...the design works great, as long as you use it as a parking brake...as soon as you have to use it for an emergency brake, you should go ahead and replace the shoes

The design's not great - it's terrible, especially here in the northeast. The adjusters freeze up and corrode from salt and slush getting through the backing plate and the rubber "seal" at the adjuster arm. The only way to remove the adjusters and clean them up is to pull the axles!! Many trucks here lose their parking brake in the first $25,000 miles.
