89, 2.8 engine problums

HI ALL ,I need help. My kid bought a 89 ,grand prix ,se? with a 2.8 Now it wont run. it started with a lack of power,Then no power and finnally died. I thought the cadilac converter might be pluged(thats what it acted like). I removed it and it runs 5-6min.then dies again.It wont start till it gets cool. No codes /Not overheating/just chugs a couple times and dies. Looking for ideas please help.thanks for reading STEVE

it has an obd1 cpu. bring it into a dealship that it will read the code. alot of codes from an obd1 cpu will not show up. i think that the cpu is sending to much fuel to the cillinder.

I would check for proper fuel pressure. The regulator is located on top of the intake manifold. Also you may have a blocked fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Start with the fuel pressure. If it is low then change the fuel filter. If that doesn't do it then go with the fuel pump. Sometimes when the fuel pumps get old they will overheat and not pump properly. That could be the reason why the car won't restart until it has cooled down. One other area to check is the ignition module located under the coil pack. They will act similarly to what you describe and since it is located on the front of the block it gets a lot of heat. If this doesn't cure the problem post again and we will try to give you some other places to look.
