Engine/Transmission Marry

This may be be a rediculous question, but it's worth a shot. A friend of mine has a Maxima with a blown transmission, and another friend that recently threw a rod and grenaded the engine in his Altima. Both are automatics and from the early to mid-90s, is there any chance the Altima's transmission will marry up with the Maxima's engine? Specific years are probably going to be important, but I'd at least like to know if there's a chance before I dig further.

First dig out the box types. If both are say RE4F02, the just go. If not, youre marrying pygmi with swede. Nothing wrong in that, but I guess easier solutions might be available.
All autotrannies are computerbox controlled. How those babies mix with kids on the street, thats as important as the marriage.
