I just bought a 1985 mazda rx7 and dont know much about the rotary engine. I know it leaks oil and was wondering what to do rebuilt it or just put new seals in it. I bought the car for $500 and there is no rust all the car needs is to stop leaking oil and a new clutch. ALL HELP AND COMMENTS are appricated please e-mail me at [email protected]
Thanks Bob

to change the seals you'll have to open the engine, and it automaticly means a rebuilt (and you'll have to change de gaskets at the same time), but if ur only leaking oil but have a good compression, it means you'll have to change the gaskets only if ur lucky, wich also means you'll have to open the engine, but it might not be that costly, if u do the work urself. whats nice about this is that you can actualy do the drivetrain work at the same time. i suggest you to order some atkins tape about rebuilts and try to find a factory service manual to have the size tolerance of the seals once you open the engine, to see if you'll need to change them.
if the compression reading is strange, then you might need to change other componement of the engine.
is the car EFI or carbed ?
Thanks Bob
