Oil filter location

Cant find it... I guess Im going blind :( Where is the oil filter?

any help would be appretiated.

probably the same place gm puts it on all the 2.2L On the back side of the engine. Pain in the ass. unless they have changed that design.

well, if youre looking for an old fasioned metal oil filter, your gonna be looking till the car rots away. The oil filter on the ecotec is located on the front driver side of the engine. Look for a black plastic lid with a 1" hex head on it. use a socket to unscrew that lid. When it comes out it is going to remove the plastic and paper cartridge oil filter that the ecotecs use. the cartridge filter snaps out of the plastic lid, you throw it away, and snap the new one in and then screw the lid and filter back into the engine.

Also, not to sound like a dick, but have you looked at the owners manual? I would imagine that information, and perhaps even a picture of what im talking about should be in there.

Old fashon? Damn near every old car had an internal filter. Then they switched to spin on. now there going back so they can save a little more money and charge you the same price for the filter. Internal filters are a thing of the past thats really coming back quick. especially in gm cars.

Thanks all! I thought that black thing on the front drivers side might be it, it sure isn't where it was on my '94 Cav. I dislike the new location and filter style, but it was the cleanest oil change I have ever done. Just remember to drain the oil before you remove the filter, this is the best policy on all of the cars I have worked on it will save you a having to clean up a huge oily mess.

I changed the oil the other day on an 05 cobalt SS with the super charger on it. Chevy was nice enough to slap the supercharger right down on top of the oil filter leaving only a couple of relatively inaccesable inches to work with.:banghead:

It's not the easiest spot to get into, but with a long extention for your ratchet the filter can be changed in about 2 minutes. I've never had a car so clean and easy to change the oil on.

The oil filter in these are accessed under the hood. If your standing in front of the car, look to the right of the exhaust manifold. There will be a black housing that you need a 1 1/4" socket or wrench to take out. In there, there's a paper air filter, pretty easy to change! ;)

The owner's manual is usually the first place I look for information on any vehicle I'll work on. Placement of the oil filter is not in there.

is the socket size need 1" or 1 1/4"?
