headers on a 94 V6?

I am looking at getting some headers for my 94 3.4L, but I've heard that headers can actually reduce torque and that the sixers need the torque they have. Would putting on shorty headers take away some torque, and would the power I gain make up for it at all?

check pacesteer, rksport, cia... as for the power question... just get taller gears if youre that cocnerned :P

have u checked out rk sport? they have some that i heard were nice for the v6 and they give u decent gain with the proper ste up

also, get tuning done after you get the headers to maximize the gains

I am looking into getting the pacesetters, I couldn't find the Rksports anywhere for a reasonable price. How do I go about getting the tuning done, I don't think I've ever seen a programmer for my car and I'm not willing to send the PCM away for 2 months.

or you can do what i can ( if this will work for you) i couldnt find a tune for any 96's at all so i got a new pc for the car from a 97 and i just ordered the software for it also so now i can dyno tune the damn thing myself. the only thing that is killing this idea is that u have a 3.4 and we have 3.8, so i dont know if those 2 motors are so different that a pc out of one will work in yours. 96 and 97 are a little different but the codes i got back were all sinsor codes and we just tuned them out and it works fine, so u may wanna look around and see what your options are.

the rksport headers are not street legal, no emissions hookup. up to this point i am undecided on pacesetter. i have a set and it was all kinds of hell gettin them to fit on right. apperently the newer pacesetter stuff is better. if you get them, make sure they are ceramic coated!! trust me, its worth the extra money. also, if you get em, take the time to make sure the flanges arent worped or dinged or anything. mine had bumps on em from where they sucked at welding. heard their stuff is better now so just be thurough when installing them...

Thanks for the replies guys, but I don't understand how ceramic coating is worth over a hundred dollars. If I'm gonna spend close to $400 on headers I'm definately gonna go with a better brand than pacesetter even though rksport is the only other brand that makes them. What is so special about the ceramic coating that it is worth $140? There has to be a way to protect the headers that I can do myself for way cheaper.

i have a friend who was telling me to stay away from ceramic coating but i cant remember why, he was telling me to look for some other coating ill have to ask him today im sure there is a good reason why he said that

WHat I've heard is that eramic coating will keep them from rusting and keep more heat in the headers/out of the engine bay. Pacesetter, from what I hear, makes pretty good heders (except one huge 3.8 batch that didnt fit right lol) for v6es... and suppsoedly RK does not.

Well, I know the ceramic coating keeps them from rusting and I know that the ceramic won't conduct heat into the engine bay as much, I just don't understand why it is so damn expensive. Philly, let me know what your friend says, I appreciate the help.

I just put some Non-ceramic coated Pacesetter shorty headers on mine. I had them sand blasted (b/c the retards put non-hi temp paint on them=What's the fuggin point?) and powder coated. I like them so far. It's only been about 2 months, so time will tell how long the coating holds up. Good so far.
P.S. Yes, Pacesetter welders suck!! The welds on the flanges to the primaries were so thick they partially covered a couple of the bolt holes. I had to use a die grinder on them so the bolt heads could seat flat. But, the overall fit was good.

the ceramic coating helps to keep underhood temps down, but mainly its just a coating that wont burn off.

i bought some high-temp silicone spray. put it on the headers, couple coats thick and had to bake it in the oven. stuff is designed for headers but its still burning off. look at it this way: save 150 now and not get the coating or have to buy a completely new set for another 300 in a year cause the old ones are rusted out.
