SR20DET in a Skyline?

I've read that Top Secret put a SR20DET in a R34 instead of tweaking the RB26DETT. The Motorex Drift 350Z also has this swap. They say because the engine is smaller it sits farther back and thus better weight distribution. If I were to purchese a GTS-M is this a good idea to swap the RB?

why would you downgrade like that? topsecret put a vq30dett in their 350z, and the motorex has an sr20det, because its a drift car. the long gears and the high revving engine like the sr20 is a great platform to drift off of. ALSO, the rb series is a very heavy engine. the cast iron block is solid as a rock, but can be a bit cumbersome in a drift vehicle. that and the sr20 is a 4 cyl, and of course it can be placeed better than a v6.

100% correct, friend. The RB is HUGE compared to the tiny SR20.

Actually the SR20DET is getting swapped a lot into cars traditionally known for RBs. I would much prefer it over any RB20 application. The GT-R seems a bit of a stretch though.

Yea. I heard that people can get a good 700 BHP out of the SR20DET, which is more than enough for me.

700 out of a 4cyl is indeed a lot...

THAT would be a rare one. I have seen over 450....but 700 is a bit extreme. The beauty of the SR is the ease with which you can get 350-450 hp. Beyond that the beauty dissipates somewhat. They are light, easy to mod, and sweet running.

ive seen sr20's push 500, but thats about the most ive seen. i know alot of the drifters that are runnin sr20's only have 350-400 horses because you dont really need the power as much as suspension/tire set ups.

I would HOPE it would be more than enough for a 16 year old. No 16 year old son of mine would be driving that kind of power!

true i dont think that if one would want to drift he push 700hp out, because wouldnt that cause a lot of traction loss, unless if you have sticky tires...

even though the sr20 is one of the most powerful 4 cylinders made, its still hard to get 500+ horsepower out of them.

This is an Sr22 but its pushing amazing numbers ~ http://superstreetonline.com/featuredvehicles/81719/

its not an sr22, its an sr20 stroked to 2.2 litres. engine code doesnt change even if the displacement has.

True... Trying to sqeeze 700 hp outa a 2.2 is a little hard even if you bump the litreidge (sp?)

yea, its still a 4 cyl. and theres only so much power they can put out. once you hit 500 w/ boost, it all comes down to rebuilding the engine after every run, p+ping it numerous times, valve jobs, and all that jazz.

Thats why my names saleen  Im not an American muscle guy but I know the potential of the V8. Even though I love the RB it even has its limits. My fave is the Rotary I guess you can call it the engine of endless possibilties and displacement to. But the rotary has major cooling and you can have a blown engine pretty quickly too, at high power.

the RB's can put out amazing ammounts of power (1300+), but like the rotary, the flat six has issues with reliability as well. although the 1300 hp for a six is pretty damn good, its nothing compared to the 13K+ that drag cars are making.

Yea how do they put out that much anyways is it just the fuel being raw alcohol or the forced induction.

what engine was in the HKS drag 180sx?
saleen...read up on a N/A 3-rotor 20B. ive heard it gets around some of the cooling and reliability issues(probably at the cost of gas mileage)
