'02 Civic - road noise

I recently bought an '02 Civic and so far I like it for the most part. Just one thing, though - the road noise! The road noise is pretty loud... it even overpowers the radio. I did notice, however, that there are three different tires on it (different brands - all are the correct size.) The front left is a Dunlop, the front right is a Pirelli, and the two rear tires are the stock Firestones. Could this be the reason for the noise? I certainly hope so... the tires are all pretty new, so I won't need to change them for a while. But, what's the BEST tire for quietness? I was looking at the Bridgestone HP50 and those have "noise reduction technology." Could all be a bunch of BS, though. So, is the road noise just part of the ride or can I fix it somehow? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well civics are popular cars because they are cheap, that is part of the reason for the road noise. The tires might have something to do with it just either when your buying new tires tell the salesperson you want quiet tires or at www.tirerack.com they have a noise rating for most tires.

sivic02 is correct check with tirerack. The road noise however will be evident no matter what. The car all around is a noisy car..Even if you read car and driver when they review the 7th gen civic one of the downfalls they each share in common is the road noise. A combat against this I found was a nice exhaust or radio =)

Yeah, well, I know that there is always going to be some road noise, I just didn't think it was that annoying. I suppose it's inevitable. But thanks for that website... I'll check it out. Hopefully some decent tires will help reduce the noise some.
