painting

I want to paint my air vents, what is the best paint to use and how do I remove the air vents? as well as, painting the drums, is there any thing i can do to stop it from rusting. Last, when paintin the IDI cover, do I need to use primer, and a clear coat, or something like that?

how do u remove the spark plug boot, or w/e those black things r called, is there a special way of cleaning them or just water, let it dry? Also, how many pound feet of torque do u need to apply to the IDI cover when reinstallin it?

Krylon Fusion for interrior, clean with ammonia based cleaner first. Look for G2 Caliper paint locally, if you cant find it you can get it off ebay for around 30 bucks. Make sure its fairly new, it only has a shelf life of 5-6 months.

Meh, I did my calipers with some high temp. spray on crap I got from pep-boys for $6 and the paint is still holding up great and isnt even staining from brake dust or anything.

The cheap stuff works fine as long as you clean the calipers real good and give it a few light coats of primer.

Oh and as long as you religiously clean your car at least once to 2 times a week like I do. :lol2:

That paint is very prone to chipping and getting between the pads and the discs of your brakes. The G2 paint or paint systems designed for calipers come with a reactor that actually makes the paint harden and fuse together with the caliper itself, producing no chips or cracks. It also protects the caliper from rust and corrosion.

For your vents I would use krylon fusion like someone already said or duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint it bonds really well even if you dont thouroughly clean them first ( i strongly suggest you use a cleaner) also if you are looking for that high gloss look use 2-3 coats of a good clearcoat and protectant.

For your vents only you dont need to remove them just tape them off, and just be careful.

um... i think he should remove the vents instead of spraying the paint all the way down the vent, im pretty sure he just wants it on the vent itself... and it wont look as good. i think you should remove the vents imo.

to get them off, im not sure what year you have but, usually there is a prong somewhere behind the vent, or on the side between the vent and the vent housing. kinda have to push on it like a clip and it lets go. let me know what year and i may be able to help you more

To get the vents off without taking a chance in breaking them, you must remove the dash. Why would you want to paint anything INSIDE the car anyway?

yea i gotta agree with the guy above. you will probably need to take off the dash to get the vents off safely, i took out the vents in my 94cav and ended up breaking the clip that held the 2 center ones back. (actually when i was trying to remove the housing for the vents i did this) but all the same, once you break a vent it kind of sucks. look around online though because im not sure myself how to get out the ones in the newer cavs
