Gear Swap Pricing

I went to a local tranny shop today and was asking about getting a rea end gear swap. I told them I would bring the gears and they could put them in. The guy said it would cost me about $1,500, is that true I was thinking 3-4 hrs labor at about $70 a hour. I know it would be cheaper if I did it but I don't have another car or the tools. I was also looking online and which installation kit would I need to get
Basic Kit: Includes pinion shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal & cover gasket
Complete Kit: Includes pinion shims, carrier shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal, pinion nut, ring gear bolts, cover gasket, and pinion & carrier bearings
Deluxe Kit: Includes pinion shims, carrier shims, crush sleeve, pinion seal, pinion nut, ring gear bolts, cover gasket, pinion & carrier bearings, PLUS wheel bearings and seals. (All of the small parts and pieces necessary to RESTORE an axle to like new condition!)

was that a mustang dealership u went to? i replaced my entire rear end on my car for 600 bucks, and if i would have just got gears that would have been maybe 500 bucks. go somewhere else thats higher than a crack head on 2 for 1 day at the pipe house!

swappin an entire rear is cheaper than doin just gears, less work involved. i dont know prices but that seems high to me. also, depending on the age and mileage on your car i would just go ahead and get the deluxe kit: might as well change all that stuff while they are in there...
