93 Digital dash/ dimmer switch

OK, so when I turn on my headlights in my 93 Jimmy, I can't see my digital dash readout. Well. I can see it at night but very dim, in the daytime it's invisible. So, I figured I would change out the dash light dimmer switch. I changed it, but I still have the same problem. I did get the switch from a boneyard wreck so it is possible that switch is bad too. Is there anything else I should look for? BTW Both the original and the boneyard switch work to turn on the overhead lights, but just don't adjust the brightness of the digital dash. Also, other than my aftermarket cd player, I have NO dash backlighting... meaning for any switches, ac/heat and such. Those lights have not worked since I bought the truck. So, am I looking in the right spot? Or is it something completly different?
