ok im 21 yrs old and my dad is giving me his 69 mustang. it needs some cosmetic work inside and out(paint and head line, seats, carpet, dash board, and the rear dash were the speakers are.thats alot.)well i want more power so... what engines can i put or is preffered for power and sound right now its completely original with the inline six 250 engine but i want a big V8 like a 351 cleaveland or windsor but is it possible to do. yeah gas is expensive but i would rather be happy and what else will i have to change besides the transmission?.thanks

Also suspension, brakes, and some frame work(stiffening)wouldnt hurt

Shutup spast. Frame work isnt necessary until breaking 400 hp. U can but u dont need 2. If getting any brake upgrade go 4 the upper class. ie: Brembo, Wilwood, Baer...etc. Its nice that you have a frame....

thats not that big of a motor for a 69, that year was designed to hold a 429, so shoving a 351 in there isnt gonna be too much of a problem, just make sure she's rust free and youll be fine

I know that they came with bigger motors than a 351, but the car is 36 years old, so the frame and body ect will be tired. And im sure that the thing was beat on back in the day.

Yes, it would not hurt to stiffen the frame.

Anyone else starts the name callin again, I'm sure you have read the rules. I get sick and tired of see this crap on here. So, cut it out.

Pretty much any motor but the 429 and the newer 4.6s will drop right in. A 429/460 may fit without notching the shock tower, but it would be extremely tight with the headers. The headers on my 351c are a tight squeeze. In '71 they changed the design to be able to fit a 429, not '69. No '69 or '70 mustang came with the 429, except of course the Boss 429 which had its shock towers modified to fit the motor. However the Boss heads are larger than the normal 429 heads... so maybe, but it'd be in your best interest to notch the towers with a 429. I doubt you want/need that huge motor in there anyways.
As for stiffening the chassis, if you want it to not handle like a boat, subframe connectors are a MUST. They will make more difference in your handling than any suspension work. The chassis simply isn't stiff enough to have any potential whatsoever for handling.
For v8s you can fit any windsor, any cleveland(including the 351M and 400), and any FE engine, except the 427 SOHC. I run a cleveland in my '69, it is my smallblock of choice, although its all personal preference. All the engines I mentioned just require a set of motor mounts and the correct transmission and they'll fall right in. You can easily get anywhere from 250hp to 500hp with a very streetable combination from the engines that will fit without modification. A stroked 351w or 351c can easily give you over 400 cubic inches, put a good set of heads and a nice ~.540 lift cam and you should have around 500 streetable hp in a small block package.

LoL...lalojamesliz, what are your plans for the car, it would help everyone out for the input that they give (on top of what has already been said about the motors)??? drag, daily driver/cruzzer, show?

lol....bikes, matt, bikes. Some nice shocks and leafs should work nicely. Ladder bars are a nice thing to own. 302s are nice 2, but 351s are common for the years. Slap a holley on er and watch it go! Big blocks are cool 2, just more work.

first of all does anyone know or have an idea how much it weighs right know? again its a 69 non fastback with the inline six 250? i need to know if i could tow it with my tacoma and my truck only hauls around 5k lbs but the less the better because i got a 6% incline for 5 miles to worry about.well its been a while since i looked at this thread but as for what fmfgnarly asked me a long time ago....i want it to be be very fast, loud enough to set off alarms when i floor it but not loud enough to get a fix it ticket, and to make it dependable enough to drive 100 mile trips with 5 of them with a 6% incline without having to worry about overheating or breaking down. id like to have enough power to beat any average stock truck or car in a stoplight race and as for the ride quality good handling would be nice but its a heavy car so i know it could only do so much but i need to replace the interior and i need a new dash but i dont want some cheap reproduction i want a great quality one does anyone know were i could find one with out ac. im willng to spent around 6k if i have to i or more just want it to be a great car and not worry if a friends car will beat me in some little race and im getting it as soon as i get rid of my camry so i have space well thanks for all the replys guys and what parts do you guys recomend for everything to replace

'69 mustangs to the best of my knowledge were really not that heavy. I know my '66 was around 2900-3000 lbs.

Its on hold right now. Decided carb would be easier and nearly as good, so I shelved it. Eventually it will be finished and on the car, just not yet. Not sure when the last time you saw it was.. but the most recent pics are over here:
http://www.turboslut.net/intconst.html

I had a top on it before, but I cut it off because I wanted the velocity stacks and the old top warped when I welded it and I couldn't fix it. The new intake setup will have to wait for a while though, I'm off at school now and my car is 500 miles away... as well as all my tools. I'm going to WTI for automotive tech and fabrication. I'll be able to work on my car in their shop during the fabrication part in about 6 months, so I'll be getting my motor built and a proper frame/cage built during that time. Perhaps I'll have enough time to finish up the intake, but I've got a lot of work to do. The course is 3 months though, I think it'll be enough time to get all that done.
I started on my turbo headers for the car, heres where those pics are:
http://www.turboslut.net/tstang/

I also built a new front subframe for the car, but I can't find any pics of it installed(I have a LOT of crap on my website).. here is a pic of the new frame mocked into place though:
http://www.turboslut.net/frame/frameconst18.jpg
That will most likely all be scrapped for a full frame and cage when I get to it at school.

And some random pics of my turbo for good measure :)

earlier in this post somebody told me to get a c4 tranny but from the info i just learned i already have a c4 auto. did they make a c4 manual? and the rear is 2.79:1, i doubt i will go over 100mph and if i do it wont be for long. what should i change the drivetrain to for my needs? i want this car to have 400 to 450hp and to be dependable and for a full tank to last me at least 130 miles(is it possible?) and i dont want to spend more than $3,500 on the engine and drivetrain (alone) but i like ebay and go on there often so ive seen things for very cheap so i just need a shopping list from you guys or girls.thanks alot everyone
