I just upgraded to 2002 SV650 in showroom condition, and only 820 miles. The Break-In period isn't even complete yet, and the Metzeler tires still have chicken strips on the side. It also came with extra HJC helmet, tank bag, and rear stand.

Uh, does anyone know where I can get front fairing/windshield for it? Thanks.

i remember reading some time ago the the s model is different from the regualar, and that fairings wont bolt right up. i could be wrong...

You will need, (at least)

SV-S top fairing
SV-S clocks
SV-S top yoke
SV-S clip ons
New brake lines, possibly clutch and so on but you might get away with them being a bit slack.
SV-S fairing mounts
All associated fixings/brackets etc.

ps what did you do with the yamaha and why go from a 4 cyl to a v twin??

Great choice! Since you have the round headlight set up, your choice of windshields is almost limitless. There's some small, sport style windhields out there all the way up to a touring screen. You could easily switch between two styles for touring and sport riding. That's the cool thing about "standard" bikes, the versatility.

Yes, I'm looking for those short sport style with small windscreen, just enough to add some style and definition in the front and keep the big bugs off, but wouldn't want it to resemble a cruiser. Do you know of any place? Checked my local dealer, they're out because this is 02 model, and I probably have to pay an astronomical price to order it. Checked ebay, but only ones they had for SV was color-matched, and it didn't match the yellow on the bike.

Speaking of versatility, I thought it was neat that the headlight would also turn as the handle-bars are turned, unlike race reps.

FZR had a few mechanical problems as well as gas leak, but it was running nevertheless. I felt I wanted to ride more than worry about taking it to long distance and the bike breaks down. I bought it to learn on it, and it was great, but this 16 year old bike cleared showed its wear and tear, and abuse and neglection over the years. I'm also guessing the guy who had it may have done some crazy shit to it, perhaps even used it as a track bike. But a friend helped me to fix it, and I rode it for a while. And two weeks ago I managed to sell the FZR first within the first week of posting on cycle traders. And I'm still getting 20 calls a week.

Price was great, and it looked great, so I picked up the SV.

Speaking of power, you'd have to take it above 9K on the FZR to get instant thrust. With SV, it's all down low, below 9K, so it's great for street riding. Although the v-twins sounds completely different than what I expected from a high-revving bike.

I'm used to clip-ons because I like the feel and front-weight bias, even though it has limited movements compared to bar-risers on the SV. So it was kind awkward riding it for the first time. And the rear pegs are much forward relative to the seat and distance between the shift and brake levers are shorter, I felt cramped for a while, just need to get used to it I guess. The tank feels comfy on the knees, but overall bloody bigger compared to FZR. It's great when the bike rolling over 15 mph, but weird in slower speed. The bike seemed to turn way too easily below 20 mph, I might have to check the tire pressure. Overall, the bike feels great, and fun to ride, really, I didn't even realize when I hit 40 mph in a residential area, because it feels like being in 10 mph. Riding position feels like I am basically over the front instrument, the bike feels light as air (363 lbs empty). This has more grunt over the S model, I could feel the front weight go light and lift-off in the first two gears, 1st gear is capable of wheelies at 4-5K off the throttle. Will post pics later.

Well, it was time to go naked, and it'll clearly increase my riding skill before I go back to race reps. My first mods are probably frame and swingarm sliders. Already took off the ugly reflectors and passenger bar.

I'm sure you could attach a Buell style fly screen. National Cycle might make one too. Holeshot Performance has the same thing that would probably look great. These are just very small colored screens that sit just above the headlight.

It's funny that you feel that way. Since I grew up on bikes a few years before you, I think it feels odd when the headlight / fairing stays put when I turn the bars. I've always owned bikes with fork mounted headlights and / or bikini fairings.

i've got three ducatis that i've had for years. never serviced and problem free. they are 1/24 scale replicas but hey, never had a probem with them

Not really, with jetski you gotta worry about the beating that the hull/fiberglass takes, more so than the life of the engine. haha.
