GSX vs. Prelude

First of all, I'd like to comment on the number of turbo Eclipse races/losses lately. And.....done...
Story time:
I was cruising to a friends house tonight. I turned off one major road onto another long, straight, has-few-lights road (read battleground). Shortly after I make the left, a Prelude flies by me on the right side. I tried to find a picuter so I can tell you the year, but my best guess is a mid 90's (not the most recent one but not the boxy one). On the back was an SiR sticker and I could see a large exhaust tip (don' know if it was any more than that). In any case, after he does the fly by, he slows down to a little below the speed limit to wait for me. There were a few other cars on the road but after some lane changes, we had a clear road. He was in the left lane, me in the right.
As I'm approaching his door, I drop my car into second (doing about 50) because I figure he's going to just punch it when I come close. I was right. I hear his engine note soar as I reached his front quarter panel. Even still, I was pulling away slowly. Clutch! Shift! I keep walking. By the time he dropped past my rear quarterpanel, I tapped my brakes and shifted up to 5th to resume normal driving, but this wasn't over yet...
He goes past me but brakes as well so we are side by side. I look in and I see he has 3 other passengers. He's got his windows open also so I yell across:
Me: "What have done to your car?"
He didn't see I was trying to talk to him, but his passenger did. He tried taking off again but quickly breaked to get back next to me.
Me: "What do you have in there?"
Him: "Its an automatic..." garble, garble, garble.
I couldn't make anything he said out after that, but he did have an expectant look on his face so I assumed he rattled off some mods then asked me about my car.
Me: "Intake, but mostly stock."
I think he then tried yelling something about following him somewhere, but as he said it, the light in front of us turned red.
:evillol:
Him: "Nevermind."
and he pointed to the red light.
I patted the dashboard and reminded my car this was its time to shine. I just replaced the clutch and flywheel 800 miles ago (with OEM), and the bill from that still stung so I wasn't going to go all out on my launch, but I wanted to see what a launch on a new clutch felt like. Decisions, decisions.
I revved up to between 3.5-4k rpms and, when the light turned green, slipped the clutch. No bog. The seat swallowed me as I took off. Clutch! Shift! 2nd...Clutch! Shift! 3rd...brakes. I was about 3 car lengths ahead.
Then, rather than flying by, he comes up next to me again. Our eyes meet and we take off again with a result very similar to the first skirming, I slowly walked away. Feeling satisfied, braked down to the speed limit with my thumb up out the window. He flew by and got into the lefter lane (you know what I mean) to make a turn.
I had a lot of fun. For what looked like a bunch of high school kids, they played nice. I wish he didn't have a car load of people but I take what I can get.

I've always admired the Prelude and I've always thought that we had similar stock track times. It might not have been the model I raced but I'm pretty sure at least one model will run the same if not quicker than the GSX (not Prelude knowledgable enough to get more specific, sorry). I'll really take whatever race I can get.
I'm also not certain how modded he was. I couldn't hear his list. For all intensive purposes, I'm nearly stock. The intake is maybe giving me 3-5 extra horses which could easily be discounted by the wear of over 140K miles on my engine.
I'm happy that I got a decent story out of it to contribute to the forum.

Man no one was hating on the prelude, he just said he beat it....
DragonofBC isn;t it nice to see people playing nice when they race? That would be a refreshing change from the assholes alot of people run into.

Nice runs...preludes are decently quick, moreso than I thought the first time I raced one.
Anyway, just out of curiosity, how is your door handle black? I thought all GS, GS-T, and GS-X had paint-matched door handles. Thanks, I'm just curious.

I know, I've been reading up on all the DSM losses toight too and I'm feeling sick to my stomach. Thank god I get my car back in the morning. I get to put some people to shame. I'll be putting a video of my car on the site tomarrow too, Showing my engine and the car run. I'm gonna let my girlfriend drive it so I can tape

good clean kill congrats
as for the black door handles the owner before prolly broke the door handles off (apparetly the door handles on eclipses are very delicate) (i use to have one a gs 97 same color as savior's) and one day i guess from pulling the handles hard me and my ex girlfriend both went to open the doors and they just ripped off ended up climing through the trunk! so when you order them from mitsubishi they come black and its up to you to paint it

I wasent trying to be mean.
I mean I have beaten newer auto preludes from a stop and roll in my mercury mountaineer....I mean common...an suv...
No doubt his car was faster, he should just go after faster cars, unless he just likes easy wins, sometimes they are necessary but others, lol its just best to save your gas ya know?
Sorry for sounding too harsh before.

Exactly!
It has been a long time since I've had a respectable street race. Most people are assholes about it, win or lose. Anyhow, nice kill, he had to have some descent mods to that Lude to keep up with an auto and three people in the car. Impressive to say the least.
Good story and good kill man!

Yeah my passenger handle was out for a few months. I finally lost it and just gave up the 200 bucks to get a new one / paint it. It was annoying as shit ahhah

Good kill.
An automatic 4th gen Lude with a SiR sticker? I smell rice.

:1:. I would swear that Utah is full of the biggest asses around. No matter how much you tried to show appreciation for a good win or loss, everyone has to be an ass about it. Pretty hard to find some guys that are willing to race, and show a good sign of sport whether they win or lose. Very well written story too. L8...
