im a newbie to this forum so pardon any stupid q's. my uncle has a 1990 240sx. he gets a lousy 22mpg. this seems pretty lousy for a sohc 4 cylinder. we both dont have a clue why it is doing this. he just had a problem with the seals on one of the injectors. [leaking] he fixed it, but it still didnt fix the milage problem. i was wondering if any one of you 240sx guys have any idea what the problem is. is this a common problem? i dunno much about the 240sx. any help would be great. and if i get it fixed he just might cut me a deal on it :iceslolan Thanks

I have a 90' 240sx w/ mods. The best gas milage i get is 25 MPG. You have to remember its a big 2.4L in a RWD car. They are by far an economical car! + They are fast so who cares.

I'm not exactly sure how much impact rear wheel drive has on gas mileage...

'pushing' the car takes more work then 'pulling'... when you accelerate the weight shifts back and it is good for traction but that in turn puts more strain on the engine. Also to convert/transport the crank work back to the rear tires will waste more energy via the driveshaft and differential... as opposed to a direct FF layout. You have to remember NOTHING man-made runs at 100% efficiency.

yeah but are you really gonna say well im only getting 22 mpg, BUT i do have to turn a driveshaft that is 5 feet long so yeah that does sound about right, if my car was FF i would expect about 23...im guessing the FF vs FR layout gives maybe +/- 1 or 2 mpg.
