Amsoil

While reading the recent Mobil1 thread I noticed a link for Amsoil, I clicked it and have been reading about Amsoil. I think I'm going to switch. Their website shows that it protects better than Mobil1 (I'm sure they're not biased) :) and have a preferred customer program that you can join and then buy Amsoil cheaper than stadard Mobil1.

They sell a "By-pass filter kit" I haven't heard of them before, but they look interesting. https://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/bf.aspx They are suppose to remove just about everything in the oil, plus they increase the system capacity by one quart. I'd probably go with the BMK-13 so i could just spin the connector on to my remote filter then mount the oil filter and by-bass filter on the frame somwhere.

I'm not sure what you mean...the membership isn't worth it? or the by-pass filter kit?

The kit permanently mounts on one vehicle. They cost about $200. If they do what they are suppose to, I think they would be worth it. But I don't know much about them and don't know if they're as effective as Amsoil claims they are.

What do you know about their filters? Are they pretty good?

A bypass system is big overkill on any normal vehicle.

Using good oil and a good oil filter is all that will be necessary.

Fleet's use these system on some of their vehicles so they can run longer oil change intervals.

I will join the Amsoil perferred customer club though, and my next oil change will be with Amsoil. I just used my last jug of Mobil1 when I changed my oil today. I'm still not sure which oil filter I'm going to use. I've still got three NAPA GOLD filters left, so I've got some time to decide what I want to use permanently. I'll probably only leave the first batch of amsoil in 15,000 miles and swap out the Napa filters every 5,000.

Honestly bro, there is no need to go to Amsoil.

Mobil 1 and amsoil are true PAO based synthetics and from what I have seen , you will not see any better protection with amsoil than you will see with cheaper Mobil 1.

By joining the perferred customer program, you can buy the Amsoil at wholesale and it is actually cheaper than Mobil1.


According to tests on Amsoil's website, the amsoil out performs Mobil1. :) I know, I know....consider the source :) But I tend to believe them, because Mobil1 hasn't complained about Amsoil's claims. Also, I checked Mobil1's website and they say nothing about Amsoil. They say that they test Mobil1 against competitors, but refuse to say which ones and how they compared. Seems to me, if they thought they were better than Amsoil...they would say so.

I'm not knocking Mobil1, I have used it for years in my Impala and recently started using it in my Blazer, too. I have used it in alot of my other vehicles, too. It is a very good oil, but I think I have found something better.

I may try one of their air filters too.

A By-Pass is for large than 14 litre (sorry about not having the Imp. or U.S. equivilant) applications. I used it for my half-ton and drove it almost 300 k. over 19 years.
The lubricant option of the brand discussed here has an option that does not require a superior filter to get good protection, it's XL-7500.
