white smoke...

ok the other day i was changing my oil and i noticed a leak coming from the thing you screw the oil filter in to, i took that peice off and the o-ring behind it was broken so i replaced that o-ring and put everything back together. two days later i now have massive amounts of white smoke coming out of my exhaust, could this be from improperly installing that part or is my headgasket just blown, thanks.

I remember Kevin saying something about crushing the oil filter housing. I guess it is water cooled and if you torque the oil filter down too far you will crush the passages and allow the oil and water to mix. Might want to check that out first, because it's much cheaper than a HG.

oil filters don't need to be cranked on... screw it on until it is seated and then give it a 1/4 turn.... if it isn't tight enough it will leak a little... if that happens... give it a little more twist...

yea i know, usually hand tighten, then half turn, but for some reason i decided to tighten it as far as i could, have no idea why now, but if this is where my problems coming from, will i have to get a new filter? did i screw this one up or if i just loosen it should it fix the problem (if this is whats causing it)

No.....It will be more involved than that, but less involved than a HG. You will need to replace the oil filter housing, drain both the coolant and oil and replace the filter. It sounds like you cracked the passages that allow the antifreeze to circulate around the oil, which, in turn allowed the oil and coolant to mix. So loosening the oil filter won't do anything.

It sounds like you have some work ahead of you, but much less work than a HG.

turned out it was just my turbo dying...ive got another thread about it, gettin an evo 16g now
