General tires, coming apart

I have a 2004 silverado with General tires on it. I have noticed that that little peices of the front tires (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch square, some bigger) are coming off all around the tire. Also, there are cracks forming between the treads. Has anyone else had this problem?

These tires are so cheap. I had to buy mud flaps front and back because the rubber was being thrown up on the paint and it took forever to wash it off.

I took it to the dealer and they basicly said I must have been playing with the truck and spinning the tires to cause that kind of damage. When I argued they said I could go to a General Tire dealer, and if they said the tires were bad then they would replace them. The tire dealer said the same thing, and he could not take it back because General inspects all warrenty returns and will not allways pay. He said I could buy new tires and if they went through warrenty he would pay me back. But that did not sound good to me.

The truck only has 9k miles on it, and I have not played with it yet, because I wanted to get it broken in good first.

I just wanted to know if this was a common problem with this brand of tires. My grandfather bought an Astro, just before I bought this truck, with Bridgstone tires; they still look great.

I agree it should not be happening, but the tires are chunking out. The Chevy place and the tire place agreed the tires were coming apart, they just said it looked like I had been spinning the tires. But I honestly do not know of anything I have done that would cause this to happen. I have not been spinning out and I rarley get off pavement.
