ax4n Questions

I am trying to gather some info on my '95 Taurus. The ax4n transmission just went out again for the umpteenth time............I was wondering being that the '95 is a bigger vehicle than the '96 on, will a transaxle from these later year models (96-00) still work in the '95 as long as it is a ax4n? What is the difference between the metric and non metric? Will all wiring connections plug in? What elsel do I need to watch out for? My intetion is to take this tranny out and trash it and replace it with a good used one out of a wreck. Thanks......Jimmy
