I've been working on a friends car, a 1990 crown vic. It runs great untill it worms up then it will begin to hesitate and stall. I gave it a complete tune up. and had little effect, he did metion that it's running a little better but will still stall and has to place the car in neutral to keep it from stalling. any ideas how to proceed.

Can you determine if it is stalling due to flooding or running lean? There is a possibility the coolant temp sensor or the ignition module is starting to go. If the module is on the distributor, have it tested. Need to find out if fuel or spark related on stall. More information will help us help you.

Check all vacuum lines(brittle or gummy). Used a piece of hose as a makeshift stethoscope and check around the intake manifold and the throttle body. You can spray around there with WD or carb cleaner and listen for a change in the idle also. Just be carefull as carb cleaner is flammable. :2cents:

this crown vic has a coil pack. no cap or rotor. it runs great for about 5 to 20 minutes . I think it could be a sensor or coil but need to know where to start. after I first did the tune up it ran great for a long time telling me that the coil pack had less work to do ( maybe ) any info on how to test if good, or what sensor to test and how.
