1999 Park Avenue Climate Control Display Problem

I have a 1999 Park Avenue. My Display for the climate control went out last week. It came on again two times randomly during a trip but hasn't come on since. Dealer said I would have to replace module at a cost of over $600. Is this module really dead if it intermittently comes on? Is there another fix for this? Thanks.
