Hood vibration

Probably an older FAQ I can't find the answer to but does anyone know how to cure the highway speed hood vibration on my '96 4Runner Ltd.? I saw the ads for an aftermarket fix but I don't want to spend the $$$.

is it vibrating because of the hinges or latch...or is the hood skin moving?

Vibration is the skin mostly near the passenger side hinge. Hinge bolts, etc. are tight and everything lines up well but I get about 1/16" - 1/8" deflection in hood at highway speeds on this corner. I can also hear it, that is the most annoying. I believe this is a common problem because I've found many references to a kit someone sells when I google "4runner hood vibration" from an outfit http://www.flankersolutions.com/ but I've never seen a picture or heard from anyone who used this solution. I'd rather do something myself if anyone has a good idea.

Thanks for replying!

Anyone else experience this?

I started this thread several years ago when I first stumbled across this forum seeking an answer. Took me several years but I found an answer. Seems I was looking in the wrong places (story of my life  ). The hood vibration or shaking was due to the factory bug deflector on the vehicle. I took it off and no more hood vibration.

Anyway, seems like other folks know about this, just not me so I thought I'd pass it along.

Too bad, I like the look of the bug deflector but I hated the hood vibration more. After 270,000 miles I'll take a few bugs and a few rock chips!!!

Up at the front above the headlight area there should be a couple of rubber bumpers the hood rests against when closed. They are adjustable.

Problem was at rear of hood right in front of windshield and was worse on the passenger side. According to other things I read the vibration had something to do with the way the wind came off the bug deflector at highway speeds and pulled the back of the hood up. I had tried to adjust the front of the hood where you are talking about with no luck.
