How reliable are Stealths?

I was looking around and I found a nice stealth for 6k. Great condition... about 100k miles and well maintained. Well, all of the people I talk to say that Stealths/3000GT's are pieces of shit and they crap out. I have a history of buying cars that crap out in like 2 weeks and they are all foreign. So I wanted to find a well built car that doesn't have a lot of problems. And my girlfriends' family has owned 3 stealths and the only problem they have had.. is on one and that problem was the clutch. And they only reason why that clutch went out is because her brother was hardcore double-clutching it. And recently the front of her exhaust disconnected... but the reason behind that one is because as we looked at it, it was really just rigged up there by the previous owner. So all in all, they have had 3 and only 2 minor problems. No motor problems or nothing.
So I was wondering, would this car be worth getting? Do you think it would have any major problems with it? I plan on test driving it soon... but even if everything is fine and dandy at the dealership, do you think anything will go wrong with it?
FYI: It is a 1991 Stealth R/T TT.

Read the FAQ do a couple searches for a lot of info.
The engine is "bullet-proof", good reliability, i've never heard of a 3S being called a piece of crap that craps out before. I've had no problems with mine and i'm about to hit 100k (bought it at 88k). I'd buy it if everything checked out ok with it.

I bought my '93 VR4 with 138k on it, and now it has about 160k. I have had countless problems with it costing me thousands of dollars, with more to come. Honestly, the car is awesome looking, very powerful and all...but I wish I hadn't purchased it at this stage in my life.

The condition depends on how the previous owner(s) took care of the car. If they maintained it well, then it'll be in good condition. But if they did a crappy job, like any car, it wouldn't be a good buy. The people who were talkin' sh*t about the car are dumb@$$es. Like Twizted suggested, read the FAQ and test drive it and if everything checks out, it sounds like a good buy.

never hurts to get a carfax report for it either, hmm isn't double clutching supposed to save the life of the synchros????

It wasnt synchros it was the clutch.;)
As was said just give the car a good checking over. While my car isnt a TT the only things that have given me issues is starter, altenator, IAC, and clutch. All parts that wil go on any car. I am sure the clutch would have lasted longer if I didnt run it at the track on an OEM one so much.:p

All you need is in the FAQ or a quick search away. Anyone who calls these cars POS have never owned one. And if the guy destroyed a clutch by double clutching...I'm guessing he is going about it the wrong way...there are 2 ways:
1) the right way
2) Vin Diesel's way
so he may want to look into that.

I have never owned a TT and Im consious i own the crappiest Stealth aroung. But other then this crappy heating and idling problem its been a good car. I have heard they have long lives as long as you take car of it. Just like all cars. You could own a 2005 Nissan Maxima and give it a lot a crap and something will be wrong in a month. I know from experience...
