changing plugs....

so how do i change the spark plugs on a 2001 GA 2.4l, how many spark plugs are they and how do you change them?

You need 4 spark plugs. They are located under the cover on the top of the engine. Remove the 4 bolts (13mm) on the cover and carefully unplug the harness on the end of the cover to your right. Pull the cover straight up (you will have some resistance). Before removing the plugs blow out any dirt and debris so that it can not fall into the engine with the plugs removed. Then remove the plugs, I remove and replace one plug at a time. After all 4 plugs have been replaced carefully put the cover back in place making sure the plug wires are in position. Install the 4 bolts and plug in the wire harness.
NOTE: You may want to replace the spark plug wires while you have it unassembled. About $20.00 at a parts store.
Also, do not over tighten the plugs or the bolts on the cover.
About a 20 minute job. if that.

don't forget the correct plug gap. Should be around .045, but I not positive on that spec. for your engine year.

Hey, Knife let me run this by you...When I picked up plugs last week, I bought platinum plugs and the counter guy told me not to re-gap the plugs because he plat. coating on the tip can crack and could cause the plugs to foul out or ware out sooner. What do you think?

What kind of platinum plugs did you buy? Stay away from Bosch plugs. Use AC Delco original plugs only.

He was right, if you use a ramp guage. If you use a wire guage, or feeler guage, you should be ok.

Thanks for the info. The guy sold me Motorcraft plugs, he said that they were better than the A/C Delco, I'm not sure about that but I can say that the GAGT is really running great (knock on wood) I have'nt had this kind of power in a long time. May the plugs or the injector cleaning it just had. We'll see how these plugs hold up, I plan on pulling them at about 5,000 mi to check the condition.

Motorcraft plugs I believe are actually Autolite. Not bad plugs, but Delcos are OEM. I like to run OEM where possible.

I think you're correct. Autolite. I'm going to run then for a while and see how it goes.
