Hi,
I know that this has been posted previously but I am having the same problem as the person with the 1999.5 Jetta. When I accelerate at a low gear, it seems to spudder a little and then revs back up. The "check engine" light comes on but flickers for a few seconds and then turns off. I have 2001 Jetta with about 27,000miles. What could be the problem?
PLEASE HELP!!!

You can get the codes read for free at most larger auto parts chain stores.

First, get an OBD 2 code reader. Sometimes you can get into the engine system, but I prefer a European scanner. Then, once you have the code, it will tell you what circuit to troubleshoot. Many VW cars (1997 and later) have a problem with the throttle body and needs to be reset back to basic settings, which can be done by a VAG scanner or by a VW dealer.

Anyone in the Stamford neighborhood, send me a message. I am a transmission and engine rebuilder.
