I have a 1993 S10 Blazer 4wd 4.3L Truck. For the last 2 months I can just about time when my blazer is going to break down. (every payday) The first time was my starter. Ok no biggie. The second time my fuel pump went out. 2 week chore, did realize the fuel pump was in the tank. Which led me to have to buy a sending unit as well. So now thats fixed, heres my newest problem that i cant figure out. The mechanics dont want to deal with it, I guess cause its old. When I accelerate it pops as i call it so bad that the truck wont really go anywhere. I just had the catalytic converter taken out and straight piped, didnt help. Distributor cap changed, rotor button changed, and spark plugs and wires changed. SOMEONE TELL ME WHATS WRONG WITH MY TRUCK PLEASE. Could it be the oxygen sensor or something else? If anyone knows at all what im experiencing please fill me in on a fix for it. Thank You.

Do you have the Votec plate on the top of your engine?

If so, you will have to replace your CPI injector and nut kit.

Usually when you get back firing it's electrically related. Since you changed your cap, rotor, plugs, wires... I would look to the coil and the ignition module... (Check the ignition module first, they tend to go bad from heat when the dialectric grease dissapates)...

No there is not a votec plate on the top of my engine. I was thinking, could it possibly be the oxygen sensor that needs to be changed? Ive read a couple car questions on another site with people who are having the same problem of the same vehicle and they say its the oxygen sensor. And Im not totally sure what an oxygen sensor does.

The timing is good. It idles great, just backfires real bad at acceleration. And the firing order is correct to. I went ahead and got an oxygen sensor today. I'll let ya know how that goes.

The timing is great? Have you checked it with the timing wire disconnected?

I just went throught the same thing with an 88 blazer. It was in fact the ignition module in the distributor. Dielectric compound disipated and it fried. Relatively inexpensive part as well.
