anyone have any experience with long hauls on the Kawasaki KLR-650? I had a 1997 , got rid of it thinking about buying another one and doing some trips with it

Personally, I have never ridden the KLR650 specifically, but having put several thousand miles on a BMW GS650F Dakar (single cylinder like the KLR)... I can't imagine spending more than about 15 minutes on that buzzy bugger!!! That thing was a SCREAMER! As for long miles, see comment on maximum time I'd spend on one. ;)

I have done 80-85 mph on mine for a few miles, does get buzzy. My duddies and I are going to get into Dual Sport riding and wanted to do a trip, but will most likley trailer them to the destination, as these tall light bikes are not well suited on windy conditions

I do long trips on anything on two wheels. If you love it to the point that you're willing to put up with poppin tylenol just to subdue the pain enough to stay on the road go for it. Otherwise, put her on the trailer. I have to admit my favorite ride is my single cyl yamaha 250. I built my own seat, it has a trunk for a backrest, bent up my own handlebars, it may top out at 50 and rattle your fillings out, but its all your preference.
