trac off/ABS light on

Would a faulty wheel bearing be the culprit of the ABS/no trac light staying on?

I just started hearing a wobbling noise from the front left wheel. I think it's a wheel bearing.

Just had the shoes replaced and now this. I swear the garage does something to my car so I'll bring it back.

Most deffinately a bad wheel bearing - especially if, along with the lights, you are hearing a rumbling-like sound.

I think I am having the exact problem you are having but, maybe not... When I either take off from a stand still position or at high speed my Service Engine Soon light blinks, seems like maybe the motor is bogging down and I hear the rumbling sound. My step-brother works for a mechanic shop and he told me that since my Service Engine Soon light is blinking it means it's getting a misfire. I got new AC Delco Platinum spark plugs just havn't put them in yet. Could the spark plug issue also make the noise and the bogging down?

I have points to both of those questions.

First, Martina, my Service Vehicle Soon, ABS, and Trac Off lights were all on. I changed the wheel bearing last summer on my 2000 GA and this spring the lights came on. The wire/plug that was connecting the wheel bearing to the vehicle was cut. Luckily the bearing was still under warranty and was replaced free of charge. All the lights went out and haven't came back. I would think that if they replaced the pads they had the rotors/calipers off and they may have tampered with or damaged the harness. The noise that is coming from the bearing could indicate it is going out, mine was so bad I could hardly hear the radio in the car when I was driving down the road. I suggest replacing it as soon as possible you don't even understand how much noise is created from that bearing or bad tires. I felt like I was in a BRAND new car after I got that new bearing.

Also, Streetthoboz, the first time I had those symptoms I had just starter for a second and the car didn't start. When it did start, the second time, it almost sounded and felt like it was missing or a plug wire or way out of time. My check engine light also flashed. I took it to AutoZone which is a WONDERFUL place because they will at least give you an idea where to start on a car if the check engline light is on FOR FREE rather than paying 85.00 at the dealer!!! It has saved me 2 or 3 times for dumb issues. It has since happened 2 or 3 other times, I replaced wires, and plugs and it made no difference. With my car I just have to play around with it by hitting it hard a couple times on the highway or playing around with the accelerator. One time it lasted 2 days the other two only 10-20 mins. What everyone has told me is that it is an issue with the injector, clogged or plugged. Run some decent fuel line/system cleaner through the system, I have found the Lucas fuel line cleaner is a good product and its rather inexpensive. If you do replace your injector or figure out that is the problem, let me know if it solves the problem for good.

Problem was a bad bearing. Had it fixed. Noise went away as well as the lights went out.

This car is costing me almost as much in repairs as I paid for the car itself. Sickening! :(

Welcome to the forum RamAirDriver. I just wanted to take a moment to say that was a kickass first post. :). Props to you for being so informative, my friend.

Gentlemen, I've had the same problem. December 2003 I had to replace my front drivers side wheel bearing after a pretty nasty accident, then about 4 months ago I was braking and was greeted with a loud KLUNK and the Trac Off/ABS lights on. Replaced my pads and rotors, nothing. I then had to replace an ABS sensor. Unlike most cars, where you'd have to just replace the one sensor (cheap, like $75 total) GM has graced us with needing to replace the entire hub. So, $350 later... I no longer have that problem.

So, you may want to look into that before wasting the $800 on the wheel bearing.

Also another thing to look at (dont know if its been mentioned yet or not) is the fact that several wires come dangerously close to being melted by their positioning near the brakes/etc. Its apparently been a known problem with GAs, and is another probable cause for your problem.

Hope I was helpful.
