98 taurus slipped into reverse

The other day I was using my taurus to run a compressor to fill the tire on my truck. With the taurus running, I removed the compressor from the trunk, plugged it into the power jack through the passenger door connected it to the truck tire and went into the house. When I got into the house I saw the car careening down the street. It ended up on the lawn down the street and damage was minimal ($1800 for the car and a tree has lost its mother).
I know that I left it in park because when I tried to replicate the incedent I could not take my foot off the brake without the car moving, no matter what. I found some recal notices for the 97 taurus for the same thing but nothing for the 98. Has anyone heard or had this happen to their 98. So far I have had no reply from Ford Canada and the local dealer has not been helpful.
