Yes, another thread about Achieva's not running...

'97, 2.4 auto, 150k

Engine must be in "cold" condition meaning having set at least 2-3 hours, then when started, it idles fine. If allowed to idle long enough to warm up, it runs and accelerates fine with no missing, etc. If it is driven without allowing it to warm up, it will start to take off then within about 3 seconds, start missing, lose power and quit. It cranks fine, but won't start right back up. Usually requires cranking and shutting the key off and on a few times. Then it will pick up rpms and run fine from there on. Problem was happening only occaisionally until just recently, now anytime engine is cold.

I've replaced the plugs, ignition boots, and throttle position sensor with no change in condition.

I've been told sounds like ignition control module ($136 @ a-zone) but wondering why just when cold.

As far as OBD II codes, I checked as soon "check engine soon" light and ABS, traction control lights all came on, and the code read "02 sensor", which may be bad, or reading may (I'm guessing) be a symptom of the stalling problem.

Wondering if this may actually be a fuel starving problem. When it does restart, no excess emmisions or black smoke like flooding present, just picks up and goes. I'm thinking I'd like to maybe pour a little gas in the throttle and see if it picks back up, but I haven't been able to do that yet. If I do find it to be fuel starving, and fuel filter is ok, any suggestions on why this condition?

Any feed back greatly appreciated.

very possible that your O2 sensor might be tripping up your computer in the car by telling it that theres something wrong when in reality its just the o2 sensor messing up possibly. i'd recommend you just replace the o2 sensor and see if that fixes it. if not, then id definately have to believe that it would be caused by your coil packs going bad. temperature can have a LOT of impact on some components in any car. especially when you are talking about really cold or realllllly hot temps. anyway, thats what i'd recommend. let us know if you need more help or if you get it fixed, tell us what it was. thnx
