coolant temp sensor??

i recently had auto zone run the scan on my 1995 bonnie it came back diag. trouble codes: history code p0118 coolant temp sensor sensor signal high. where is the sensor located and is it a serious problem??? soes it have to be changed now or what???help please.

It could be one of 2 thing's,either a bad thermostat or the sensor.The sensor should be located right below the T-stat housing on a 3.8.

thanks man does that sensor have some wires running out of it? you said it could ba a bad thermostat but the car has never run hot.

Should be a female plug that goes to the coolant sensor.A bad thermostat doesnt always mean that it is going to get hot.When they stick open the car will run colder.

when changing the sensor is it just a matter of screwing it out and screwing the new one in??? will it be better to replace the theromstat and the sensor??

Yes,but you have to get the coolant level below that point of the sensor or you will have a big mess.

Since you have to get the coolant level lowered to remove the sensor,you may as well replace the thermostat at the same time.Buy a Stant superstat about the best one's out there.
