AC problem

A couple of months ago, I had turned on my ac. I noticed that the engine would rev higher then normal. The truck idles at 900 and with the AC is around 1000 rpms, normally. With the AC on now, it's idling around 1300. There is an adjust screw for the AC idle behind the glove box, I had played with it and noticed small changes, but she still idles high.
Also, she will drop from her 1300 AC idle to normal and then back up. This action happens right after one another. I understand that the AC will cut off from time to time and then come back on, but this is more radical.
So before I start digging deep into this mess, I was wondering if anyone had this same problem and the measures that where take to fix it. Thanks
