NEVER pull something this heavy in OD. I pull LawnMowers and stuff in OD, but NEVER something that heavy. You will cause your tranny to start slipping!

I've been told the same thing. I don't use OD when I'm towing something or have a load in the bed of the truck. I haul a lot of mulch, topsoil, stone etc. and have to "consciously" shift the lever past OD whenever I do so.

Definately don't pull it in OD! You save such a small amount of gas with OD on. There is no way saving $3 is worth possibly spending thousands on a tranny rebuild. If he doesn't believe you, or us, tell him to look in the owners manual.

I am not an OD fan at all. I really only use it on the freeways. If I am traveling 55mph+ for long periods of time... But for around town, I just use drive.

And it is not good for tranny to be in OD when pulling... stresses everything out.

My 95 only has the readings: P-R-N-OD-3-2-1. So if I am hauling something or pulling something what should i use?

if the OD is a D with a square circle around it, then use 3. I havn't seen 1,2,3,D in anything but a car, but maybe some trucks have that too. Drive is almost always 3rd gear on an automatic transmission.

My '94 has that setup and I use "3" when towing or hauling a load.

I have pulled cross country pulling trucks and cars with no problem.

I use 3rd gear until I am at about 70-75 then I shift into OD.

If I run into a hill or traffic I downshift to 3rd until I can regain momentum.

The key is dont put heavy stress on the tranny when pulling in OD. When your going 75 on the highway at a steady speed, without hills, it puts very little stress on the tranny.

Mabye I have been lucky, just my 2 cents.
