Factory Radio for 1996 Lumina

I currently have a 1996 chevy lumina with the cassette player, Does anyone know where I can purchase the factory cd radio for this car at a low price.

I tired Ebay, but I have only been locating the factory, Radio/cassettes.

I really need a Cd , lol

Does anyone know where I can pick one up cheap???

I don't know where, but I have an idea. I wanted one for my '97, I told somebody I know that works at Best Buy in audio installation and asked them to be looking for somebody getting one taken out for an aftermarket head unit. Couple weeks later he found me one, I bought it from the car owner for $50. Remember if it's the Theftlock unit, you have to go through the unlock procedure to get it to work. I have info on that.

Personally, I'd just go to best buy or something and pick up an aftermarket radio. Even a cheap one is going to sound and perform better than the stock head unit.

I beg to differ. My stock cd player with stock speakers sounded way better than my current setup. I have a pioneer head with pioneer speakers, and the two rear 6x9's are amped with a small pioneer amp. I just think the sound quality isnt any better than before. I replaced my stock cd player because it quit playing cd's. In reply to the forum, I would try ebay again, and look for stock head units that are in fact theftlocked. This is an easy fix, I myself could provide a free unlock code for it. Good luck.

I love the Delco head units. They are basic, but tough and have great power for a stock unit. I agree with tblake, I put an aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my Impala. I didn't like the sound that much better, and it looked like crap the way it mounted. I sold it and went back to the OE. I like the one in the Lumina a lot. I especially like the SCV feature, with most I am constantly turning the radio up or down as speed changes. Not with the SCV.

I would agree on the facotry head unit sounding pretty well. Anbd I too love the SCV on the radio. My only complaint is that I have the cd unit in the trunk,(GM Upgrade) and it goes in through the FM modulator, and that sounds like crap.
Any suggestions on getting good CD sound out of the unit with an FM modulator would be great!

Keep in mind I know nothing about audio equip, but most things that use a modulator or a channel (like the input for an older video game) would have more than one channel/frequency option. Maybe there is a switch on your changer that would use a different freq. Maybe you are getting interference where you live?

My wife had a modulator changer in the Ford, it sounds excellent.

I have to admit, I do miss the SCV feature a lot.
