me and my friend in his ford focus were racing at 11:30 pm today. this car decided to follow us and i thought it was a cop cause he was right on my ass. i looked closely and saw that it was a stang. so i slowed down to let him get beside me. we hit the light! i revved my lude at about 5 grand and launched like crazy. it was the best launch! i killed him off the line. same in 2nd. at 3rd gear he started pullin a lil bit. i slammed it to 4th and my car pulled like crazy!! i ended up beating him about 2 car lengths!! i couldn't believe it!

these new tires i put about 2 months ago really helped me launch. they gripped like crazy! without these tires i would have never beatin him as bad. this shows that a simple mod. like sticky tires really help! Mustang owned!!!!!!!!! lol

Also what kind of tires you got?

amen, you could have a 500 horsepower car but if your tires dont grip youll get your doors blown off by civics

civics are economy cars they were never ment to go fast. i have yet to see a factory turbo civic but you know what it wont happen. i respect the people that do tune there cars there are a lot of nice civics. im not hating or no bashing here but just relize why these cars were produced in the first place to get you from point A to point B while not spending you check on gas. also i seen an older body civic like box box body and it had 4wd any body ever build or hear of a turbo one of those that would be a great sleeper like an 80's model i think?

Gohan Ryu
04-04-2005, 03:46 PM
Civic Si's and SiR's were mid-high 14 seconds in the 1/4...they came with a b16 and the SiR had 11:1 compression ratio, it has DOHC and variable valve timing...it redlines at 8k. Obviously it wasn't designed to be an economy car, but it got great mileage anyway. It didn't need a turbo to go fast. There are some companies out there that have got a whole fleet of slow cars, and the only way they can make their cars faster is w/ turbo and awd, that means too many gadgets to be reliable and too expensive to maintain.

I've seen a 1989 Civic w/ 4wd but I read somewhere that the drivetrain was too weak to handle a large amount of hp/torque. I've also seen video of a CR-X with a 4wd drivetrain I think from a CR-V. It looked pretty quick but they didn't publish any performance numbers.

sounds likely but exaggerated. sn95s usually run high 14s. Preludes run what..mid 15s? I can't see those tires shaving off a whole second..they aren't drag radials or anything. if you have other mods than it's a different story. so, what other mods do you have?

SiGNAL748
04-04-2005, 08:49 PM
It depends which Prelude he has. The Si's run mid-high 15's. The VTEC's run high 14's-low 15's (and the S's ran like 17's or something, horrible model). I'm not sure that the tires were much of a factor in the race. The mustang could've easily taken the Prelude as well. Driver's race.

Its funny to see noobs talk shit about something they have no clue about. Yeah there was an awd civic/crx i cant remember which one it was i still havent seen any number s as far as power or 1/4 mile times. I still want to know who started this bs rumor that it takes 10 grand to make a civic or any other civic based platform crx, del sol and so on run 13's. As far as the mitsu comment goes not to be an ass but i have yet to see a usdm mitsu that runs faster than 15's without a turbo. But back on topic it must have been from around 94 or so they ran 15.1 stock so the lude could keep up depends on year, motor, mods, driver. In the end nice race something to get on the mustang owners about 4.6vs a 2.2(who said theres no replacement for displacement).

Lets consider the competition a car with a 1.6 l sohc in most cases vs a 5.0 wow thats damn near close to 4 times the motor. Your laughing at a 14.90 when your big bad ass mustang ran a 14.02. Its mustang vs lude not mustang vs civic, and as far as i remember ive seen a civic si run high 14's with a cold air and a cat back. So before this becomes an all out import vs domestic war. When you take a completely different car and make it seem like thats the most bad ass car that company makes in this case a sports coupe lude vs a sports coupe mustang not a damn civic. Goodluck pulling yourself out of this one i have something to say about every comment on why a mustang would be better. I dont hate them i just hate it when people who drive them act like there the baddest pos on the planet.

Is irrelevant, because both parties are douche's for street-racing. Take it to the strip, show some time sheets, and then you can brag.

For the record, I'd give this situation a good chance of being true if it were from a roll, but I don't believe the 'lude would've been so lucky from a stop. Just my $0.02. Besides, its not like either of the cars is really fast, anyways.

Okay...
We all know a stock mustang can beat a stock civic right?
We all know a swapped/ and or modded civic can, BUT NOT ALWAYS, beat a stock stang right? Even though a modded stang would probally crush a swapped/ and or modded civic.
And we all know a boosted civic against a boosted stang is a pretty good race to watch.

Can we move on from the whole, honda vs domestic? Please?

Just because a car is RWD does not mean it will be better off the line than a FWD car. I have seen multiple RWD owners here hitting 2.0-2.3 60's when any FWD car with decent tires and driver can easily accomplish those 60's.

I could believe the situation its totally believable except for some of the fast and furious like scenes in the story, it could have been written a different way and would be totally believable.

Nice 60's...thats probably your only reason for never loosing to a civic...I know lots of stock swapped civic's could walk you all day long from a roll...some say racing from a roll isnt racing but with your 94mph trap alot of civic's, integras, preludes could give you a big run for your money from a roll.

You must come from a mostly rice area...civics range around here from 11's to 19's, yes street legal too.

I wasn't actually referencing the capabilites as far as 60' times, but rather its a simple matter of torque curves. A Mustang GT achieves far more torque and horsepower at a much lower RPM than a Prelude is capable of. So, while the 'Lude is still trying to reach the higher RPM's, the Mustang has already reached that peak curve and is accellerating at a faster rate. This is why I said it'd be a different story from a dead stop. Once you get them both rolling however, the playing field is drastically different.

Electrocute yourself on non-firing spark plug? Nice. Electrocute yourself on a 12V power system, even nicer.

For the record, yes, a Cavalier is an economy car. Yes a Prelude is technically a sports coupe. Then again an Evo is a sedan, a V6 Camaro is a large sports car...I think you see the pattern.

When the end of the day is here, I still drive a car that gets pretty damn good gas mileage with some very respectable numbers for a "cute little economy car," its not a race car. It will however, at least keep even with a Honda Prelude if not outrun it (except the VTec, of course). This is, of course, an irrelevant comparison. When one retard outruns another at the special olympics, we still call them retarded. When one slow car outruns another...guess what...they're both still slow.

Im damn sure you didnt just pick up a wrench and go do your first tune up without first doing a little research. Now before you start flaming me with something ive posted in here just know this i dont want to see andy more comparo threads turning into flame wars because some high school kid has a bigger ego on the net than he does in real life. Seond off back to the task at hand this thread is about preludes vs mustangs, not mustangs vs civics, or preludes vs cavaliers unless you have something on something other flaming or something on the topic stop bad mouthing people becasue the tables can turn very quickly. And oh yeah the prelude gets just as good gas mileage as a cavalier, it looks better and i would put a f22 lude against a z24 cav, not to point you out but your are bad mouthing honda in a honda forum.
