I live in New Hampshire so I want a large 4 door with a manual tranny, moonroof (fun to drive in the twisty's), LSD for the snow, and does not require premium gas? What would be the best year used Maxima to get in the 16k and less range?? or would a I30t with manual be a better bet? Thanks

the 2000-01 maxima's with lsd have a viscous limited slip(VLSD) system which isn't bad, but isn't anything spectacular, the 2002-03 maxima's have helical limited slips(HLSD), which are awesome. however, all maxima's recommend use of premium fuel and i've seen people who have dyno'ed their car's with 89 octane and saw a loss of as much as 30 wheel hp over stock as a result. your car won't ping because of the knock sensor, but it won't run as well as it would with the 91+.

FWD or 4WD for snow.
From -94 to 2004 maximas employ ol' wild west wagon -style rearaxle. No fun.
Either buy low mile pristine J30, 4000$? or 04 or newer. No need for calculator which is most cost effective...
There is nothing wrong with usieng premiun gas, only total costs for you count.

Nahkapohjola: WHAT are you talking about!! I know "80's Maxima's were RWD but 1994 -2004 were RWD?? Are you sure???
What year did the J30 start? It had LSD in the manual tranny starting '94 right?
I want to use regular 87 octane, is that posible with the knock sensor for just highway cruising? I do allot of miles for my work as a sales man MPG counts!! I can put octane booster or premium in if I want to romp on it on the weekends!

No not RWD. I talk about rear suspension. Lukiluki.

3gen (J-30 chassistype) maxima started at -89. I have oldie -93 model, checkout my web page. LSD standard. Std 3& 4 gearlock, automatic, after 50mph, steady drive. It goes at best with 30mpg steady highway, city is 20? It has free suspension rear, FWD. Front AND rear stabilizers as standard (the long connecting steelrods, crosswise) allow soft ride even as horses are released.
The -94 model has one "indian chased wagon axle" where both rear wheels are connected. I have verified with my own eyes that the -02 model is like that also. I heard new ones come again with independent suspension.
Mpg is not the whole issue. $pm counts. Dollar per mile. Maximas got KS Knock Sensor that often retards ignition on bad pingpong gas. Fuel consumption shoots up. Dollar per mile is higher than uSing premium... many issues t here.
I like my max. But on such job u describe I would search first for low consumption cars, then select the best I like. Sorry. Max would not be on that list... But If u put nice drive on the criteria first, then selection would surely ? be new Maxima...
