I have a 96 Ford Explorer and the hood won't stay up at all. It progressively got worse and worse and now you have to actually hold it up. It appears to have two pneumatic devices on each side of the hood that keep it up, I just want to find out if that truly is the problem. If so, does anyone know the name or part number for these things and are they fairly easy to replace on your own? Thanks a lot for any help.

The pneumatic devices are the problem. You can pick them up at just about any auto parts store. About $20 apiece.
