90 tc stuck door

I have recently inherited a 1990 towncar, with 40,000 actual miles, :smile: the car has always been garage kept. and it is in as new condition, :iceslolan all of the power windows motors work, but the windows are stuck in the upright posistion, :uhoh: the car was washed weekly by a local drive thru facility, also the passenger side rear door will not open from either direction, :banghead: I doubt that it has ever been opened in the last 15 years, :eek7: the latches do not feel like they are broken, but it want open. :banghead:
from reading other threads i see that the clutches could easily be the window problem, but the door is baffleing to me. :disappoin any sugesstions would be appreciated, :smile: and any thoughts as to dealer repair charges for replacing window motor clutches. :eek:

My suggestions,

1) Door windows --if more than one do not work--sounds electrical/fuse/switches. If not electrical and the former owner ignored them when they failed, then maybe it is the window motor gears. The enclosed internal gears attached to the window motors are notorious for chewing up because the parts are plastic/nylon. Do you hear any noise or whining when trying them--you should then. With low mileage, it seems odd, but then again, age is more a factor with that stuff--it just turns brittle over time. You have to remove the window motors to check that scenario. Gear Kits are available. The actual repair isn't bad--just the motor removal.

2) My rear door wouldnt open on an '89. I was able to detach the inside trim panel after removing the rear seat and putting the front seats full forward. Your situation may be different for rear access--but that may be what you have to do. After opening the door panel, you may find a broken part--or in my case, the parts needed a good lube spray loosening. The door has been fine since. My front passenger door had a $1.00 broken part that mounted on the lock cylinder and actuated the pull rod. It was troublesome to repair because I broke one doing it---but at a few bucks expense, that door now unlocks with a key fine.

I had the same problem with an 88 tc,look and see if the door lock knobs are rising the same height,if the stuck doors knob is less than the other side,then get a pair of pliers and keep jerking on the lock knobs until they are the same height,being careful not to break the top of the knob off(plastic),then the door will open.
