Well, I haven't posted here in a while.... my 95 cutlass supreme that has had some issues in the short time that I've had it.
To give you a little history, when i bought it there had been very little maintenance done to it however, it ran pretty good ;
i starting replacing the plugs, wires, etc and broke a plug and it went it to the motor; i forgot and started the engine,,,,rat tttttt; was the sound from the engine; i bought a magnet and pulled the metal from the plug and porcelain was still floating around in the motor.
After i flushed the motor i tried starting the engine; it was out of gas, and i burnt up the fuel pump. I took it to my mechanic and he put a pump in; got it started; then it threw a rod straight threw the pan. He wanted to charge me $800 + fluids to install a differnt motor. I had just paid him $250 for the fuel pump...
I found a good running motor( i heard it run) from the local junkyard for $350, I bought a chiltons and started removing, labeling, and zip tieing wires.
It was all pretty simple till i couldn't reach a bolt on bellhousing no matter which way i tried to get to it. So then i decided to pull the tranny with motor, alot easier than pulling just the motor. The hardest part was pulling the drive axles out of the transmission.
I now have the new motor ready to be mounted up to the transmission and reinstalled in the car.
One thing I'm not sure about is the start up. Do i need to do any sort of priming to the motor before I turn the key?
I got to tell ya, it felt really good when i pulled that motor and tranny out of the bay!!!!

just make sure it has oil, the fuel pump should take care of pressurizing the fuel system.

I got my 3.1 installed, bolted down, wired up....
I turned the key to fire her and she just turned and turned and would not crank.
I definitely have fuel, and spark.
Could this be my crank sensor? I pulled mine off of the old motor before i took it to the junkyard, but, i didn't think to replace it until tonight.
I do rmember when i heard it run at the junkyard, it was having problems turning over initially but ran fine....
What is the difference between the crank sensor behind the block and the one on the harmonic balancer?
Also, the plug that goes into the bottom of the oil is not the same as the plug that i have leftover.... The color of the plug wire on the pan is purple/yellow; the one i have left over is looks like a brown/gray(could be wrong, its pretty faded and oily).
What does this oil pan plug do anyway?
