mr2 vs supra

This competition may seem a little off, but I'm considering both cars. If I get the mr2 it will be my weekend car and I'll keep my sentra, otherwise I'm getting rid of the sentra and buying a supra for a track/daily driver.
91-95 toyota mr2 turbo
93-98 toyota supra twin turbo
stock, it's obvious that the supra was meant to be the badder brother...hell they were made during many of the same years and the supra had to do something to justify it's much heavier sticker price.
I understand the supra's i6 platform is a much stronger setup...along with the tranny and other driveline components able to withstand sub 10 second 1/4mile runs fairly reliably, but the mr2 can withstand a great deal if we are talking mildly moded...say about 11.9-12.5 seconds in the quarter mile...then it becomes a lot more even since the mr2 can get there cheaper...but the supra gets there with a little more style and reliability...tough call for me
which is better and why? handling? power delivery? potential etc...

if you have the money by all means get the supra. the mr2 is a great car for the money, but its still no supra. you drive around in a supra, people is like " damn thats a freaking supra" if you drive around in a nice mr2, people will give you looks, but its more like "hmmm thats a pretty nice car" i would say neither is practical but the supra has a bigger boot. but that wouldn't matter cause you would keep the sentra as a beater if you buy a mr2.
again, the mr2 is a great car and its lighter then the supra, but the mr2 still is not a light car. they can weight as much as 3000 lbs. which means it isn't exactly a tossible car either.

Save for a house. It will hold it's value much better than either the MR2 or the Supra. Just my :2cents:

Very tough call. I'd probably go with the Supra TT; it's faster and more comfortable than the MR2. I could live with having a sports car as my daily driver, especially a sports car like the Supra.

from what i hear the MR2 is actually quite tossable.... in that it's very likely to toss you into the nearest hedge.....

thats why if i had to get a MR2 i would get a 93+ ones with the revises suspension so i won't end up in a ditch. however to some they perfer the 90-92 ones becsaue they like that evil handling.

it's not ditches you have to worry about.
i have in my short lifetime seen 4 MR2s "parked" up on round-abouts.

from driving both and owning an MR2 turbo, i'd say it's a hard call, they are VERY different cars.
engine wise, the supra has two more cylinders and an extra turbo, period. many of the parts are the same, so it's often a fact that the supra costs 1.5 times whatever you're doin to the MR2. the 6spd in the supra is a very nice box but the MR2 box is good too, except for the synchros.
the boot is NOT bigger in the supra, but it does have a back umm seat. The supra has NO boot, it has a parcel tray. The MR2 has a small boot in the back and a smaller space in the front, but sucks for shopping.
performance straight line the supra has it, but handling is questionable. The MR2 is mid engined making it's potential better but it's harder for an average driver to get the most out of it, the supra feels distant, makes you feel numb and disconnected from the road. the MR2 makes you feel like you're grafted to it.
Interior ergonomics, the supra is american the MR2 european/japanese. I'm 6'1" and have no problems with space in the MR2 but if you're built um texas style, don't get the MR2. the supra is much more truck like in cabin space.
The supra is rarer, and will turn heads (although i've stopped lookin cause most are N/A autos that i see anyway.) it also has more power and straight line ability, and i'm sure the handling would be achievable. It's a much more comfortable every day car. The MR2 is a perfect weekend car. Mine's my every day car, but it's pretty low to get in and out of, the suspensions not as cushy, i can only take one friend with me, but i don't think i'd be any happier with the supra. and i don't think it would provide anywhere near the fun on the weekends until i did some serious mods to it. oh and there's the cost of running... fuel consumption is a lot better in the MR2. Also I can't remember now how hard it was getting in and out of the supra, the MR2 is easy cause the seat is at the pillar, but my g/f's FTO is hard cause the seats forward of it cause of the back seat, it makes it harder, (in the rain you notice it) and the supra has the same sort of thing... day to day and when it rains you notice that stuff.

Hmmm...I'm still not sure about what I'll do...
I like the way my sentra handles, but I wish it hugged me a little more and felt more sporty...then again the suspension already feels pretty firm and on dirt/bumpy roads you really wish for a more cushy and luxury-type suspension...that could just be due to spring rates that are a little too strong for the stock shocks...
anyway...I'm looking for a bit more power, but mostly I just rwd (bored of wheel-hop, pushing through turns, etc etc etc)...The sentra pulls about .88g...while the supra and mr2 can easily be pushed into the 1.0g range.
If I decide on the mr2 then I can get it this year...otherwise the supra will be purchased next spring.
Any comments on which breaks down more? I'm leaning toward the supra a little more since I want to have just one car and I doubt the mr2 can handle much snow...I'm not even sure how much snow the supra can handle, but my guess is that it will at least be driveable...
any bad whether comments? how is the mr2 in the rain? how are both in the snow? high-speed driving in the dry...which feels more stable?
I'm looking into both a lot...I might end up getting rid of the sentra and using a supra for my DD and an mr2 for my weekend warrior.
gas mileage isn't that important, but with gas prices seeming to climb daily it's becoming a slight concern.

the supra is beautiful but id take the mr2...and it would probably be easier to find an mr2 than a supra
