Launching the car

at what power level does the difference between a gsx launch and a gst launch start to show, or is it there from stock?

That's hard to say. As the GST makes more power, it will spin the tires that much more. The GSX though, will continue to have good traction. For example, a 300whp GST may do the 1/4 in ~13.2 @ 110 whereas a GSX with the same mods making the same power will probably run the 1/4 in ~12.4 @ 108.

I may even go so far as to say that a 280whp GSX could take a 320whp GST in the 1/4 easily (assuming both are on street tires and driving is equal).

Yeah that why everyone wants a gsx, but for now my GST will be fine. If you dont go out a drag race that much a GST is ok. And its fun to launch a GST!

Arent GST's pretty fast on the highway. I remember my friend telling me they lost to like 3 of them in one nite. Those GSTs are pretty fast. My friend a Subby WRX RS model. But from what i heard those GSTs are pretty fast on the highway, now i just gotta see them in real action!

Yeah the GST's are pretty quick. They will take the WRX pretty easily, there are a few stories like that on here. the STi is another question though :-)

I am happy with my FWD, I kind of like the challange.

For the GST, you can always just get the Quaife LSD and you won't have any spinning problems. Along with getting the LSD, it would be a good idea to get the polyurethane motor mounts, and a front strut bar.

I have all wheel and want a front wheel. Ive only been in one race that was from a light (ate him up) EVERY other one has been a roll and fwd pulls so much harder from the roll. Im in the process of selling mine and getting a fwd.

What kind of roll are talking about? 20 mph roll? 60 mph roll? I know plenty of FWD turbo dsms putting down ~330whp that spin tires up to about 40 mph. If you only race from a high mph roll and aren't putting down much power over stock, then of course a FWD will probably eat your AWD up. Think about it, there's a reason FWD is so commonly referred to as Wrong Wheel Drive ;)

I race from a roll all the time. I've yet to lose to a FWD. AWDs still have lower gearing to make up for the added weight, DBS.

Moral of this story is, get AWD and around 500 whp, and you won't have problems losing races to FWD cars ;)

i think you will be much happier with a awd i just bought one and you cant even tell how hard you are really pulling (from a pull or dig) because the car is staying stable at all times. I was in my friends gst and he launched it and i thought he fucked something up the way it wheel hopped it sounded like the trannie hit the ground

Also, this morning it was raining very bad, you couldnt even see a foot infront of the car because of the fog and rain. Once the fog cleared it was still raining very bad, but i was driving 70mph crusing with radio up loud without a care in the world. Everyone else was driving 35mph as i was passing them

yea i raced an Sti about a week ago. He was probably pushing more than stock hp (305 bhp I believe) it was probably 350 hp maybe more. Anyway, he revved his engine at me and shit so i was like fuck you im not racing you so he pulls away from me and i catch up to him and then i hit dwonshift on his ass and pull away from him as he is pulling as well. When we come to the next stop he waits for me. I start revving at like 3000 rpm, and we both hit off at the same time, I may have been first, but as soon as i hit 2nd gear (maybe i need a short shifter) the fucking guy pulled on me by like two cars and then i was like fuck it I give up. Cool race though, I knew i was gonna lose but i thought id might try him. Anyway, he didnt launch the fucking car at all, which is why i was able to hang with him, but if he launched the car at like 3500 rpm I wouldnt have been able to see his side doors. Those cars are fucking fast, which is why i wanna get a gsx so fucking bad, but i still dont know because ive put a lot of time into my car, but well see.

yeah , my plan is to mod the shit out of my FWD then when im older and have more money ill buy a 2g awd shell or just a non-running awd and trans plant all the parts into the awd. so basically use my fwd as a parts car. and what i cant swap ill sell on ebay.

find a wrecked gsx and do a swap if you want it.

I agree with 97_3clipse, that would be something I would do. Even tho I love my car it would take too much time to try and make my GST into a GSX.

if your serious you dont understand the potential of the car you have. sell it to somebody searching for a gsx or tsi awd and make them a very happy camper. go find a gst and prepare to be dissapointed.

AWD is quicker for 1/4 times, I don't care what anyone says. Stock vs stock the gst can be a little quicker, but when you start modding a gst you will spin those wheels like crazy. Hell, with my old t-25 I spun them from 1st-2nd. AWD is simple raise those rpms and go. AWD's can launch MUCH harder than fwd's, with good tires and clutch etc, it is not uncommon to see 5k AWD launches. Then again, AWD or not, its the driver that counts
