I very gently wiped the wires with a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alchohol, and it seemed to help the stumbling problem I having w/ my 97 f150 4.6L.

What reccomendations do any of you have on doing this?
Is it advisable? How much to replace it?
Would you need to disconnect the ground lead from the batt and let corrective measures start all over?

This is getting more interesting.

The MAF sensors are the most often needlessly replaced part on later model Ford vehicles, because the dealers generaly will not clean them.

They are perfectly cleanable, in fact I consider it routine maintenance. For the how to: www.crownvic.net/tech/cleanmaf.html

I drove the truck ~~ 200 miles or so since the first cleaning, mentioned at the start if this thread. The torque converter lockup problem that this truck has had since I got it in November seems to have been healed! A google search using "mass air flow clean ford" yielded lots of information regarding symptoms and TCC problems were mentioned more than once.
Seems I may have killed more than one bird with this stone. I did notice that for the first 2 or 3 miles after cleaning the MAF, that I had a lot of pinging in the motor. Lots more than I've ever heard with this truck. After a few miles though, it seemed to really settle down. Maybe the OBDII was making corrections due to the new airflow calculations.
I'll update after I get some LektraSolve contact cleaner from my workbench at my office, and really hose it some more. I'm sure I did not do a complete cleaning due to fear of breakage, and not having proper solvent and knowledge.
