I'm pretty new to this DSM thing. I just bought my eclipse 1 month ago. I am really enjoying it and have already done a few modifications to the engine, but now I want to do something that many don't even bother with or something totally sick. I have a 1998 GS and was wondering if it is possible to do a complete swap with an evo turbo engine or is it better to just swap the enging without all the turbo equiptment and do bolt-ons? Thanks for your help and I hope this isnt too stupid of a question.

It wouldn't be a stupid question if you had done a litle bit of searching first. But to answer your question, it is insane amounts of custom fabrication since the evo motor is different. If you want turbo, either custom make a kit for your GS, or sell the GS and go GST/GSX
Oh ya, welcome to AF!

Yeah, searchings for suckers. It would be really cool if someone swapped a evo8 (or 7,6,5...) into an eclipse. It would be a horrible amount of work I would think though. Maybe if you could get a hold of a wrecked evo8 with a good drivetrain, you could swap the whole thing. Then you would probably only need to make custom suspension mounts, motor mounts, braces, exhaust, gas tank, and a lot of other things i forgot.

^ why not jusy buy a gst/gsx with that money and sell your car? Case closed. A cool fab that an ass would do.

Considering that the Evo has the newest version of the 4g63, and hopefully CW free, it would be a pretty decent swap on a GSX or a GST that needs a new motor. Not to be hijacking the thread, but the Evo 4g63 should plop right in our turbo 2gs, right?

No. The evo 4g63 is transverse. It sits the other way in the engine. look at a pic of a 2g and of the evo VIII engine bay, notice the intake is on the other side...
Your best bet if you want a good engine is just to find a 1g 4g63 and slap her in. If your really serious about making power you can pick up a built motor from buschurracing.com or build your own with a 1g block... best things to change in the 1g block are the pistons 7.8:1 compared to the 2g 8.5:1 and the exhaust mani.
Evo engine just isnt going to fit and there is really no point as you can get a 1g engine for alot cheaper.

Im sure the intake can be remounted to the other side... my main concern would be mounting positions. but i guess youre right. for the money, might as well pick up a built 1G 4g63 motor.
