VH45 240z Project

Been working on this for the past few days, inbetween new product development. This car was featured in Option 2 some time ago and I had to make a model of it. Wasn't interested in developing this into a t/kit so its just a personal project.

So far done most of the bodywork, apart from the front and added walls to engine bay.

Plan to scratchbuild the V8 block and possibly use it with RB26 trans from Ebbro 1/24 R34. Will scratchbuild all other ancillary parts too.

Some more details about the car can be found - HERE (http://www.zparts.com/showcase/engines/pages/q45v8z-testfit.html)

Your work is always immaculate! I will be watching your attention to the engine bay closely. What's with Fujimi including a motor, and not providing engine bay detail, or even opening the hood? Oh well. Not that it stands in the way of a master like you. What do you use for the rim on your scratchbuilt wheels? I've been having fits finding plastic tubing the right size. Top notch work on your part! Great work, I am amazed as always.

Why use tubing when you can use rims?

Small update...

The dual intercoolers on this car are an interesting and unusual feature, I was looking forward to replicating them...

One of the annoying things about working with styrene rod is that it wont bend smoothly without kinks. I currently have no 3mm Modeler Fex rod at moment - a great product BTW which I highly recommend for exhausts, roll cages etc - therefore I opted to use something else for the pipe work on these intercoolers - sprue. As you know you can find some interesting shaped sprues in some kits. I've been in the habit of saving some for the spare parts box for years. In this case I just needed 4x 90degree bends, 1 pair (black) more acute than the other. The intercoolers themselves were made up similar to the tutorial I wrote except these are made entirely of styrene sheet and no putty. I sandwiched 4x 40thou sheets for this and each IC is made up of 3 parts. Another thing to point out is how I've made them attach to that front partition and thus stay in position. Its just simply discs of styrene punched out with the punch and die set to match the holes punched into the partition.

Wow! Those things look incredible!

A bit of topic but In styrene rod/tube bending, how do you keep the parts from being resilient, or trying to achieve it's original form?

Normally you heat it up until it soft enough to bend, when it dries it should keep the new form. It's basically remolding it into a different shape.

As for the Flex Rod stuff, I've never used it before, so I dunno about that.
